From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

Whole school swimming program

This week the year 3 and 4 students have participated in the 5 day swimming program at the North Adelaide Aquatic Centre. This is part of a whole school swimming, surf safety and aquatics program for every child. Having skill and confidence in the water is  fundamental for every Australian. For the Grange community, being so close to the beach it is perhaps even more critical.

I was fortunate to be able to attend and see each year 3/4 student and their class actively and enthusiastically participate. Over the 5 days the children made much progress, had fun and developed strong confidence in the water.

A teacher from another school at the pool today said to me “I want to come to your school” upon seeing our well behaved students. This positive student behaviour was certainly demonstrating and living the school values of

* Being kind

* Showing respect

* Giving best effort

The positive behaviour is due to the work and support of our parents, the close collaboration with teachers and our teachers that provide an engaging, differentiated and structured learning environment to explicitly teach, encourage and enable positive behaviour. A great team effort!

Regards, Grant

String Workshops

Our string students Angela, Tyla, Molly, Pria, Maggie, Sebastian, David and Emily recently attended the Strings Workshop at Brighton Secondary School.

The students learnt to play five pieces and performed these to their parents in the last part of the workshop.  Ninety five students from different schools attended the workshop.

The next concert is the Winter Strings Concert in Elder Hall. The 'Grange Primary String Quartet' will be playing Polka featuring senior string players David, Emily, Noah and Callum. The students have worked hard to get to this level  of performance. We wish you every success with your performance.

Cherry Blossom Picnic

Arigatou! Thank you to the parents, staff and students who attended the Hanami ( flower viewing) picnic on Wednesday 8th August. Despite the cooler weather it was nice to sit amongst the cherry blossom trees and enjoy our sushi. Also a big thank you to Jo and the helpers in the canteen who managed over 800 sushi orders. Sugoi! Soccer

We would like to congratulate the Grange Senior Soccer team on their fantastic Knockout Cup grand final win on Friday 6th July Under lights at the Port Pirate Soccer Club. The whole team gave an extraordinary effort against a determined Seaton Park Primary School team. The score was 4 - 3.

We would also like to acknowledge the Under 12 Soccer team who also made it to the grand final in their division. They all played their best but unfortunately lost the game 2 - 0.

Well done everyone. Your efforts are to be commended.

Tennis

Starting 22nd August, we will be offering Tennis coaching after school from 3:15 - 4:00pm running each Wednesday for 5 weeks. The sessions will be run by David Grainger from the Grange Lawn Tennis Club and held at their courts across the road from the school. Participating students will meet in Witungga Hall immediately after school and walk across together. Parents are welcome. Students will be dismissed from Witungga Hall after walking back at the conclusion of the session.

Priority will be given to Year 3-5's and it will be capped at 30.

The sessions are funded by the Sporting Schools grant so we can offer them at no cost.

If your child is interested, please email Nick Warren at [email protected] and consent forms will be forwarded to you.

Football

Our 6/7 Boys Football team, as reported in previous newsletters, have been competing in the SAPSASA Knockout competition. We are pleased to report that Grange got down to the last 4 in Pool A of a 56 team competition. Unfortunately, in their last game played on Friday, they were narrowly defeated by Fulham North Primary School by 2 points.

Well done boys! Your efforts have done Grange Primary School Proud.
