Welcome Back

Welcome every one. I hope your holiday was a relaxing distraction. This term will be action packed for both the students and teachers. ...aren't they all!

This newsletter is just a brief first week notice. We will return to our usual fortnightly newsletter next week.

Sue Robson

Sue Robson our wonderful Prep room teacher-aide officially retired yesterday; Thursday 19/04/2018. To celebrate her marvellous work and connection to Newlands we will be having a special presentation at our Monday morning assembly next Monday. So, if you can come along and say good-bye to a very valued member of the Newlands school community.

School Photos Update

School photos should be ready this term. We will advise families when they arrive at school.

school data management system

Thank-you to all the parents who have signed into Sentral.

Our recent review shows that around 50% of parents have signed into Sentral, which is fantastic. We thank those of you who have signed. For those who haven't as yet please do so.

While there were some glitches initially at the start, they appear to have been resolved.

Flexibuzz Closing Down - Soon

We will be closing down Flexibuzz in the coming weeks. We will be transitioning all our communications; both outgoing to parents and incoming from parents. So it's extremely important that you sign into Sentral  ASAP.

Official Last Day Term Two

Our last day for term two will be Thursday 28th June.

Pupil Free Day
Friday 29th June - Last Day Term two

Please make sure you have put this date into your calendar.

Teachers will be involved in professional development on that day at school.

Please make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/ren for that day.

New Books in the Library

Over the school holidays we purchased lots of interesting books for the library collection. That means there will be lots of new books to read during the Readathon! Make sure you visit the library to see what is on offer!

Library Monitors

We are looking for three new library monitors for Term 2.

Library monitors help out in the library by:

- Shelving Books

- Helping Students find books

- Tidying displays and shelves

- Reading stories aloud to other students

- Assisting the librarian with other tasks

Library monitors must be able to commit to helping out in the library for at least one lunch time per week.

If you would like to be a library monitor for Term 2, please come to the library and ask the librarian to put your name on the list. Monitors will be announced next week.

Education Sub Commitee

This is an open invitation to all members of the Newlands Community to join the Newlands Primary School’s Education Sub Committee.

The purpose of the subcommittee is to provide advice and recommendations to the school council in relation to curriculum and programs, ensuring the implementation and monitoring of approved recommendations and develop/refine school policies.

Luke will be in charge of setting agendas, chairing meetings and reporting back to school council.

Our first education sub-committee meeting will be held on Tuesday the 24th of May at 3:30.

An agenda will be sent out to parents involved in the committee a week prior.

If any members of the community would like any further information, to contact Luke directly.

Preston High School 2019

Letter from the New Principal

Hi, I’m Sean Butler, the new Principal for Preston High School which will be welcoming yr7 students in 2019.

For local families, opening our new school is a once in a life-time opportunity to form a school, and a school culture, founded on excellence and inclusion in the heart of our community. I’m really excited to work with you, parents and students, to build a vibrant learning community that prepares young people to be successful in 2024 and beyond.

There are 3 core values that will underpin our work at Preston HS:

·         Excellence – which means fantastic teaching and great curriculum that stimulates deep thinking, engagement and action by students.

·         Inclusion – which means both being a school for our whole community and also that we celebrate and promote the unique talents of every individual with opportunities for each child’s particular interests and passions to be explored.

·         Community – which means harnessing the enthusiasm of our families and maximising the opportunities we have with our exceptional location.

You can find information about our building works underway in 2018 and the refurbishment of the beautiful red-brick heritage building on the Victorian School Building Authority website

I look forward to seeing you at our first “Meet the Principal” event – details below. Please take a moment to come and say hello when you see me at your primary school or out-and-about in the local community. You can keep up to date via the parent run High School for Preston Facebook page, or you can also contact me directly at [email protected]
