From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

Congratulations and farewell to Alex Narcys

Earlier on this year Alex was successful in applying for the short term Deputy Principal at Allenby Gardens PS.

Recently Alex has let me know that he has been successful in winning and accepting the position of Deputy Principal at Kilkenny PS for next year and beyond. While this is a big loss to us at Grange it is a wonderful opportunity for Alex and something that is well deserved. We wish him well for the new role, one that he is certainly ready for.

I thank Alex for his tremendous contribution to Grange PS through his work, as class teacher, leadership member and Partnership Leader over the past years at Grange that has made such a positive difference for us as a school and partnership.

Of course we will still have Alex and his wonderful family as parent and student members of our school community at Grange PS.

Chris Philbrook has done a great job in filling in for Alex in his absence. The next step is that we will advertise amongst the teaching staff to fill the Senior Leader position in 2020. The role of this position is “Leading Learning, Years 5-7 sub-school and whole school STEM”. I’ll let you know the outcome of this position when we have completed the selection process.

Regards, Grant

Grange School Colour Fun-Run 22nd November 2019

We will be holding a School Colour Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this term on Friday 22nd November 2019 (week 6) after lunch, more information to come. We're doing it to raise much needed money for the establishment of nature play areas on the oval.

The School Fun-Run promotes healthy and active lifestyles while helping us raise funds! It's all about participation, with students treated to a great day as a reward for their fundraising success and we encourage everyone to get involved.

Please view this link to see how much fun we are planning to have.

Instrumental Music

Congratulations to our music students who performed at the Instrumental Concert on the 22nd October. The students performed with great enthusiasm.

Students performed on a variety of instruments including strings, percussion and piano. It was a fantastic effort by all students and I am looking forward to the ongoing participation of students in future musical performances.  If you are looking at starting your child in the instrumental music program please contact Diana Busolin Monday to Wednesday.

Exploring Habitats

The Year 1 children in Rooms 29 and 30 have been learning about different habitats for our unit in Geography. They worked collaboratively in groups to design and then construct a diorama of a habitat of their choice. They also researched the habitat using their IPADs and published an information book each to go along with their diorama.

Room 29 extended their learning further by creating an artwork of a place that they thought is special and explained how we should take care of it. They even thought of sizzling starts to engage their audience! Below are some examples of the children’s learning and creativity.

 Primary Maths Association Challenge

Grange Primary will have representatives at the PMA presentation evening on Friday 1st of November. We entered the 2019 PMA Challenge and were successful in winning the class presentation section for both Grange entries. Teachers and the representative students will be presented with their certificates by the Minister for Education, John Gardner.

Sarah Pendrey, Caroline Harkins and the students from Rooms 2 and 30 entered “What is capacity?” and received state winner.

Susan Wilson and the students from Room 32 entered "Displaced" and received state winner.

Both classes presented a digital entry where they were able to showcase their mathematical learning throughout the topic of capacity and displacement using ICT. Many thanks to Chris Philbrook who assisted with developing the students technological learning.
