From the Principal

This week we have officially welcomed our 2018 Prep families with a fabulous information night where lots of great questions were answered. This is the beginning of a 10 year journey and we are very pleased you have selected The Lakes to share this exciting time.

"Night Under the Stars", or as it turned into "Night in the Gym", was an excellent opportunity for our P-6 students to showcase their talents in the arts as Dingo took us on a journey. I was so impressed as I heard student voices belt out the songs and some of those moves; sensational! Parents, grandparents, extended family and past students, together with teachers, stood together collectively proud of a fine show. Congratulations to everyone on a truly remarkable performance.

Our fundraisers did an amazing job working extremely hard this week to prepare a vast array of goodies to purchase. Incredible effort and fantastic display of teamwork from our community.

This week I would also like to highlight Harry Agrios who has been offered a scholarship to pursue his Language Studies in AUSLAN. Congratulations Harry, we are very proud of you.

Kerrie

Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF)

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) will run over four years 2015-2018 and provide funds for eligible students to assist with the cost to attend camps, sports and excursions.

Families holding a valid Health Care Card or Pension Card (valid means-tested concession card) or temporary foster parents are eligible.  New families to The Lakes South Morang P-9 School need to apply at the office.

If you have already applied at The Lakes you do not need to re-apply each year, unless you receive a new Health Care Card or Pension Card.

$125 per year will be paid for eligible primary school students directly to the school and be tied to the student.  CSEF has very strict guidelines and cannot be used for iPad payments or Curriculum Charges.

Child Safe

It Takes A Village….

As many of you know, this page is dedicated to child safety. This is part of our response at The Lakes South Morang P-9 school to the Victorian Governments introduction of Child Safe Standards. The Child Safe Standards are the compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian children’s services, including schools, to help ensure the safety of children from abuse and neglect.

For more information about the Child Safe Standards and what all schools in Victoria are supposed to be doing, go to the Department of Education and Training website

SafeMinds

Emotional distress affects children, young people, and school communities every year. This may include mental health issues such as anxiety and depression as well as other mental health issues and behaviours.

These issues have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of children and young people, including their educational, developmental and wellbeing outcomes.

Several years ago, the Victorian government collaborated with Headspace and the National Mental Health Foundation to develop the SafeMinds resource package.

SAFEMinds: At Home provides a range of information for families and carers to help you support your child's mental health and wellbeing, including videos, tip sheets and resources.

To access the full suite of SAFEMinds resources, please go to the link

When prompted for a password, enter “SAFEMinds-Guest”.

Once you are in the SAFEMinds site, click the ‘SAFEMinds Online’ tab to access the parent and carer videos and toolkit resources.
