Working Bee

Sunday 17 June

Last Sunday we were to have a working bee at the school to move new sand into the sandpits and clean up the vegetable garden as well as tidy the garden areas. Unfortunately we had to cancel the working bee due to the heavy rain.

However, on Tuesday morning a small group of hard working parents volunteered to come and move the pile of sand to the sandpits and clean up the sand that had washed down from the long jump pit to Serpells Road in the heavy rain. Thank you to all the parents, David Mander and Graydon who came and worked hard for a couple of hours to move the sand. We really appreciate their time and work.

Year 6 | Milgate City Marathon

Friday 22 June

Our Year 6 students will travel into the Melbourne CBD for the Milgate City Marathon. This week, they have worked in groups to map and plan their route around the city using only public transport to visit as many locations and landmarks as possible, developing a range of invaluable life skills in the process.

School Disco

Thursday 21 June **TONIGHT**

The students are excited about the disco tonight where they will be dancing with their friends as they listen to their favorite music. The Foundation to Year 2 disco is from 6:30 – 7:45pm with an ANIMAL MAGIC theme. The Year 3 – 6 disco is from 8:00 – 9:30pm with a NEON DREAMS theme.

The students will have a fantastic time together. Thank you to the parents who have organised and assisted to make it a wonderful event for the students.

Retirement | Judy Gallagher

Ms Judy Gallagher, our art teacher, will be retiring at the end of this term. Judy has been a teacher at Milgate for 24 years and working in education for a total of 44 years. The staff will have a special farewell for Judy and there will be an opportunity for the school community to farewell and acknowledge her contributions to the school at the assembly next Monday.

During her time at Milgate Judy has been both a classroom teacher and Art teacher. Judy has taught so many students over the years both at Milgate and at other schools. During her years in education Judy has contributed to the education system and had an impact on the lives and education of students. We thank Judy for her contributions to education and wish her all the best as she moves onto retirement and new experiences.

Student Attendance

There are an increasing number of students who are coming to school late each day. This is quite disruptive to classes and to the student learning. A student who is late to school often misses out on the instructions for the day and then has to spend valuable time finding out what to do which delays their learning for the day. We know that sometimes this is unavoidable but this should only be very occasionally. Could all parents assist with making sure their children are at school on time every day.

Student-Led Conferences

Tuesday 26 June | 4 - 7:30pm

Students are excited to share their learning with parents during the upcoming Student-Led Conferences. Parents will book into a half hour block online and during this time up to 8 students will be sharing their learning with their parents.

Students will come into the classroom with their parents and talk with them about their learning and share their achievements from the first semester, using their portfolio as part of the discussion. Teachers will prepare the students for the discussions prior to the student-led conferences. They will work on their communication and presentation skills with a ‘buddy’ class in preparation for the meeting. It is remarkable to hear our students articulate their learning with clarity and purpose, filling them with great pride in their achievements.

Specialist teachers will also be in their rooms and available on the night so students can visit these classrooms with their parents as well.  Bookings are now available online, the link is available within Compass | Favourites (Star in the top-left menu).

Individual Parent / Teacher Interviews

Term 3 | Tuesday 17 July | 3:40 - 6pm

If a parent would like an individual Parent / Teacher interview with their child’s teacher after the student-led conferences, they can make a time by contacting their child’s teacher directly to make a time.
