From The Principal

This week we had an amazing assembly, ably led by Mrs Houghton and 4H.

Our Year Four students were a credit to themselves and their families for their presentations, singing, reading and musical performances. Thanks to Mr Bucher for organising part of the program.

We clearly have very capable students and we are very proud of how we are developing student voice.

The students showed great speaking skills, and we loved hearing about the projects they are so passionate about through their persuasive writing.

You may not be aware of the recent changes to our school boundaries which could impact on families who had previously thought they were out of our zone.

If you have a child beginning school with us next year, please ensure you have enrolled them by June 30 to enable us to plan most effectively for 2020.

If you know of a family who has a Prep child beginning in 2020, please ask them to come to the school office or join the next school tour on Friday June 14.

We have already had a significant number of enrolments submitted, so to ensure your child has a place and is able to participate in the full transition program, it is important we have their documentation this term

If you were in the zone and are now out of the zone, you are not precluded from enrolling further children, and consideration will be given, depending on capacity, to those affected by the changes.

Congratulations to Mrs Melanie Short and her family on the safe arrival of their third child, Harvey Darren Short, at 1:50am on 11 May. We wish the family all the best for the future.

Thanks to all  families who donated cakes etc for our stall last Saturday, and also thanks to those who helped set up and cook hundreds of sausages on the day!

We had both beautiful weather and long queues at the polling booth and we were able to raise over $2500.

This will go to our two main projects for 2019: updated cooling system upstairs in the main building and new play equipment near the swimming pool carpark.

Unfortunately, one of our elected parent members is unable to continue for 2019-2020 as a school councillor. This means that there is a casual vacancy for this two year period.

We would love to hear from anyone who may have expertise in the projects we wish to complete this year, or if you are interested in the role, please call the school office, email or speak to a current councillor.

We would also welcome anyone who may be interested in joining in with a subcommittee.

Below are the current members and meeting times for each subcommittee, please contact the office if you are interested in joining one of these groups.

The CSEF is an annual payment to the school to be used towards camps, sports and/or excursion expenses for the benefit of eligible students.

Primary school student rate: $125

Please read the notice below to check on your eligibility.

CSEF forms are available at the office and should be returned by 30 June 2019.

Please note:

Parents (including guardians) no longer need to submit a new application form each year in most cases.

Parents only need to submit an application form in 2019 if any of these changes have occurred since 2018:

  • New student enrolments: students who have started or changed schools in 2019 or if the parent did not apply for CSEF at the school in 2018
  • Changed family circumstances: such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing at the school in 2019

Jac Semmler  has commenced work this week as our new garden specialist.

Jac brings a wealth of garden knowledge and experience to MPS, and has already met all of the year 3/4 students.

During this transition period, we are reaching out to the whole school community for support. We would especially like to have 5 volunteers per class for Jac's first few weeks, so that garden classes can hit the ground running smoothly.

Even if you no longer have students in the program, but are nevertheless available to help out, we would greatly appreciate support from the whole school community.

A reminder too that anyone can volunteer (grandparents, family friends, aunties, uncles etc. are welcome) they just require a Working With Children Check, which is free and valid for 5 years (

The link to sign up as a volunteer is:

Please read the dates/times for classes carefully, as they have changed.

Also, If you have lots of  lemons growing in your backyard and have some to spare, please donate to the SAKG kitchen, as we can always use them!
