Welcome back, everyone! I hope you enjoyed the break from the school routine and were able to recharge the batteries, ready to launch into Term 3. We have another busy term ahead with an array of learning opportunities and experiences planned that includes Science and Music incursions, Japanese Cultural Day, Science Talent Search, Aerobics Nationals, Year 5 /6 swimming, Book Week celebrations and of course our ongoing focus on continuous school improvement, driven by the outcomes of our school review to be completed this term. All of this happens concurrently with the regular business of teaching and learning and professional development of staff. We are looking forward to the weeks ahead with great enthusiasm.
Parent Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think about our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted among a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 percent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22nd July to Sunday 11th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi, and Greek. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September. I cannot stress enough the importance of the parents selected to respond to the survey as this is invaluable information that we use in planning for the future of all our students. Please speak to Rebecca or I if you would like more information.
We have a new addition to the School Uniform options - a sleeveless polar fleece jacket. The jacket is available from PSW, Mt Waverley.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
The collection of this data is happening in all schools now and must be uploaded by 2nd August.
I have attached a fact sheet for parents, guardians, and carers that gives a detailed explanation of the NCCD process.
Schools have been contacted by Monash University regarding a new study to be conducted through the University’s Fear Emotion and Anxiety Research (FEAR) Clinic. This study will investigate the treatment efficacy of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders in primary school aged children and their parents. As you are undoubtedly aware, anxiety is a prevalent and growing problem among children, and can lead to significant detrimental outcomes, including impaired academic achievement, school non-attendance, and problems with social and emotional functioning. The University is currently inviting children (aged 7-12) and their parents who both struggle with anxiety to register their interest to participate in the research study. I have attached an information sheet with more details regarding the study and how to register.
