Welcome back

Welcome to 2018

We welcome you all to the new school year at RidgeView, especially our new children and staff members.

Mrs Vicki Hooper is our Office Administrator.  She works in our school office from 8.45am - 2.15pm each day.  Please contact her on 413 9808 or [email protected] for all administrative, finance and attendance matters.

We welcome Mr Kiran Solanki (who has filled the Term 1 fixed-term position in our Year 3-6 learning space with Mrs Hart).  Kiran is a keen sportsman and enjoys drama, dance and visual arts.

We also welcome Charmaine Foster who will share the teaching of our Year 1 and 2 students with Mrs Kemball.  Charmaine will teach on a Thursday and Friday while Rachael is released for management duties.

This year, you will notice that we are streamlining and modernising aspects of our school.  The first change is a new range of student stationery.  Thank you for placing your online pre-orders during January.

Newsletters are now electronic and can be accessed from your computer, tablet or mobile phone.  Although we see most of our families each day, this newsletter is our main form of communication.  We intend to publish electronic newsletters every two weeks and ask that you refer to these for event reminders and updates.

New Learning Spaces

As you will be aware, the majority of our students are in new learning spaces this year.  Mrs Kemball has redesigned Room 3 as Waahi Koru (Koru space) for the Year 1 and 2 students.  Mrs Hart and Mr Solanki have created Waahi Pakari for the Year 3 - 6 students.

Many thanks for your ideas to name our new classroom.  We have decided to call it Waahi Whakaaro aro which represents reflection, contemplation and thinking.

At the end of last year we received a furniture grant from the Ministry of Education.  We have ordered some exciting new furniture and storage bays for our classrooms which will arrive later this month.

Following a very profitable student market day at the end of last year, we have purchased six additional Chromebooks to support students' learning.  We now have one device between two students in Waahi Pakari.

Meet the Teachers

We invite parents to attend our group Meet the Teacher evening this Thursday, 8th February.  Parents of Year 1 and 2 students are invited to meet at 5.30pm and parents of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to meet at 6.00pm on this evening.  These are important meetings where your child's teacher/s will explain classroom routines, the learning environment and student expectations for the year ahead.

Swimming Pool

We expect that the swimming pool will be open for classroom sessions from Week 3 to Week 10 this term.  When lessons begin, please ensure your child has their swimming togs, towel, a waterproof bag and pre-applied sunscreen each day.

Community swimming will be available to key holders from 4.00m - 8.00pm on weekdays.  Keys can be purchased for $25 from Vicki in our school office.  Please email her to request a Pool Users' Agreement Contract.

Information and Questions

We remind families to contact their child's teacher/s if they have any questions regarding  student learning or classroom activities.  All administrative enquiries, including the booking of our Before and After School Care programme can be arranged through Vicki Hooper.
