Principal Report

Brianna and Ian

Ian sends his best wishes from China, they are having a great time exploring the country.  Below are some photos of their journey so far.

Colour Explosion/Diwali

Last Friday was an exciting time for the school community. We celebrated Diwali and had a Colour Explosion!

It was great to see the enthusiasm of all the students and families that participated.

The students enjoyed choosing their sunglasses, the obstacle course and their very yummy icy-pole at the end.

A massive thanks goes to all the volunteers for making this day possible as well as all the effort families have made to raise money for the school.

We will be getting the final tally soon!

Curriculum Day

On Monday we had a Curriculum Day. We were fortunate enough to have Chris Brown come out to the school to work with the teachers around our School goal for the year, Reading.

Chris has been to America to study and has been trained by Irene Fountas an international expert in Literacy. He shared with us how we can further develop our teaching and learning of Reading. It was an amazing experience and it was also encouraging for him to say how impressed he is with our Literacy Program and our teacher’s capacity.

Classroom News & Events

Visual Art News

Term 4 in the Art Space is all about printmaking and texture for all year levels.

I would love some old towels if anyone is cleaning out their cupboards. These come in handy for students to dry hands after painting sessions. We are still gratefully accepting cardboard roles and boxes (from foil, gladwrap etc) and plastic bottle tops. You can drop them off in the office or children can bring them to me in the Ngranga Learning Space.

Come and view the amazing Diwali lanterns students have made. They are on display in the library. These works are the result of exploring the art element pattern during our Term 3 ‘Place, Culture, Country’ unit of inquiry.

Thankyou, Gaye

Camps, Excursion and Incursion Payments

We are continually trying to improve the way we organise and communicate events to the Dohertys Creek community. Part of this process is to ensure that Parents/Carers are given sufficient time to provide payment and consent for future excursions and incursions. To support this process we ask that parent always provide electronic consent. If this is an issue for you please contact the administration team who will support you through this process as handwritten notes or verbal consent can not be accepted.

We also recommend logging on to Compass regularly to ensure you do not miss the closing dates for upcoming events as late payment and/or consent will not be accepted under any circumstances.

The safety of our students is paramount and having these processes in place helps ensure that we have all of our bases covered when students leave the College under our care.

Updating Contact Details

Have you or your family circumstances changed? Mobile phone and email addresses can be updated on Compass. For all other changes, please notify the General Office either in person or via email at

Compass news

Compass Education have been working hard over the past few months to improve the functionality of Compass for Parents with a range of sweeping enhancements (including advanced app functionality) that allows Parents to make payments from their phones without having to go through the web browser.

All changes are reflected in the Compass app (available for both iOS and Android phones), where Compass have built an app-native version of the events module, with the ability for payments to be processed from mobile devices.

The introduction of brand new functionality allows you to fulfil a range of tasks such as:

  • Provide consent for events/excursions from your phone, including multiple events/excursions at once
  • Process payments from the mobile app, including the option to save credit card details
  • Set up a Payment Plan to pay for events or excursions over a series of instalments*
  • Confirm Medical Action Plans are up-to-date in case of an emergency during an event or excursion.

To view a video tutorial on how to pay / consent for events through the parent portal (web browser), click here.

Did you know that absences can be entered directly into Compass by Parents/Carers? This is our preferred method of communication, however Parents/Carers can also contact the school to discuss attendance issues or report a student absence (preferably before 8.40 am).

Late arrivals

All students arriving late to school (ie. after 8.50am) must report to the Administration Office before heading to their classroom to obtain a late pass. This late pass then needs to be handed to their teacher. Students will be directed back up to the office by the teacher if they do not have a late pass.

Early Leavers

All parents wishing to collect their child/ren early (ie. before 3pm) must report to the Administration Office before heading to their child's classroom to obtain an early leavers pass. This early leavers pass will then need to be handed to their teacher. Parents will be directed to the Administration Office by the teacher to obtain an early leavers pass before a student is released from class.
