Principal's report

Day one at MPW...
Greeting all,

Well, here I am on my first day at Moonee Ponds West PS.  What a delightful community you have here. No doubt this is the result of many people and families over many years.   I was able to welcome students, parents and carers this morning and farewell them at the main gate tonight. I have also spoken to children about their learning so I am slowly finding my way. I am usually out and about each day so please make yourself known to me.  I look forward to meeting with you.
Kerri Simpson
Principal (Acting)

Today students in years 3 and 5 completed NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN testing provides a snapshot of student learning and assists with informing teachers. NAPLAN results will be available in August.

Reminder - F.A.D.
Wednesday, 23rd May, 2018

F.A.D. – Wednesday May 23rd

The Grade 5/6 children are really looking forward to FA.D. next Wednesday the 23rd of May. For many of them this will be their first experience of a Free Activity Day.

Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered their time and expertise on this day! There was such a great range of activities for the children to select from. If you have volunteered to run an activity/ies, a note will have been sent home to you today. This note outlines the confirmed time, location and names of children who are booked to participate in your activity. If you haven’t received yours, please come and see Fiona in Room 10.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday!

Helping to keep school healthy this flu season

Important steps to take to reduce the spread of infection at school.

Good general hygiene remains the best defence against infection.

  • Encourage children to regularly wash their hands
  • Encourage children to cough or sneeze into their elbows, not their hands
  • Children with cold or flu-like symptoms should be encouraged to seek medical attention
  • Children exhibiting such symptoms should limit contact with others, and stay at home until symptoms have passed
  • If a child becomes ill at school with these symptoms, school will contact the family and arrange for child’s collection

Lost Property

In 2017 - a significant amount of unnamed clothing and unnamed plastic containers were donated to charity each month.

Our lost property is managed by parent volunteers and we need your help to reduce this  workload and loss of property.

You can help by:

  • ensuring that all belongings are clearly marked with students' names and room numbers
  • regularly check (and encourage your child/ren to check) for their lost property
  • remember that it is the responsibility of students and families to regularly check lost property and reclaim items

When is unnamed lost property cleared and donated to charity?

  • Last Friday of every month

Where is lost property?

In the causeway at the entry to room 7 and 8 (near the toilet block, off the little adventure playground).
