Lenten Prayer

Creator of my Life,
renew me: bring me to new life in you.
Touch me and make me feel whole again.
Help me to see your love
in the passion, death and resurrection of your son.
Help me to observe Lent
in a way that allows me to celebrate that love.
Prepare me for these weeks of Lent
as I feel both deep sorrow for my sins
and your undying love for me.

Toys From Home

Just a reminder that students should not be bringing toys of any kind to school. This includes trading cards, balls, fidget spinners etc. We ask that you please discuss this with your children.

Chester Avenue Collection Point

Morley Police made contact with the Leadership Team this week to discuss parking concerns on Chester Ave. Parents are asked to please park at Dianella Plaza and walk up to collect students rather than block the Chester Ave cul-de-sac. Children should not be crossing Chester Ave unless accompanied by an adult. Cars should not park in the cul-de-sac at any time. We have been advised that the City of Stirling rangers have been notified and will be issuing infringement notices. Your attention to this safety matter is greatly appreciated.

Church Renovations

Renovation works have commenced on the Church tower, located close to the driveway entrance on Grand Promenade. To access the church during this time, community members will need to enter the bitumen from the Dianella Plaza side and enter the church via the bitumen doors. The main church entrance will be closed.

Junior Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to the Year 1 and Year 2 students who participated in the Junior Swimming Carnival on Wednesday afternoon. What a wonderful turn out by our families to support our junior students. The children were extremely excited and Mrs Stewart ran an organised and fun event for everyone.

Senior Swimming Carnival

On Thursday, the Years 3-6 students spent the day in the pool participating in the Senior Swimming Carnival. Again, we had a huge amount of family support and the competitors were enthusiastically cheered on from the sidelines.

A HUGE thank you to all of the staff and parents who assisted in the organisation and running of these wonderful events. Results from the day can be found on the Sport page of this newsletter.

Year Six Camp

Next week marks another significant milestone for our Year 6 students, camp! The children will be heading to Nanga Bush Camp accompanied by Miss Figueira, Mr De Pietro, Mrs Erskine, Mr Morris and parent volunteers. It is bound to be a memorable expereince for all, and we can't wait to hear the stories once they return!

God bless.

Junior Water Fun Day

On Thursday, students in Years 1 and 2 participated in the Junior Water Fun Day at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre. They completed a warm up of water aerobics, kickboard and noodle races, an obstacle course, a Table Tennis Ball Challenge and running in the water races. Swimmers were supported by our Year 6 Faction Captains, thank you for your efforts!

Senior Swimming Carnival

On Friday, students in Years 3-6 participated in the Senior Swimming Carnival also at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre. There were many outstanding performances throughout the day and congratulations to the recipients of the Championship and Runner Up trophies as mentioned below. I was incredibly proud of all our competitors who showed determination and commitment to their faction in completing races to the best of their ability.

Congratulations to O’Mara who won the Endeavour Trophy for best cheering and sportsmanship throughout the day. Our overall Faction winners were Veritas with a surprise win, surpassing Dominica and ending their eight-year reign. I think the major highlight for most of the students was the inflatable race at the end of the carnival when they were asked to choose their friends and race their inflatable to the end of the pool.

A massive thank you to those parents who assisted with time keeping, ribbon giving, manning the false start rope, marshalling and pre-carnival set up. A special thanks to Craig Dropulich who started all our races and kept us running early on our schedule!

Students will now be selected to represent OLA at the CPSSA Swimming Carnival early in Term 2. They will receive their letters next week.

Harmunity - Mercy College

Harmony Day, celebrated on 21 March each year, promotes and highlights the cultural diversity within Australian society. At Mercy College we celebrate the diversity of nationalities, cultures, languages and faith traditions that are represented within our Community.  We will gather as one Community, at 5pm Thursday 21 March, on the Primary Oval for a multicultural Liturgy and event which we have named “Harmunity.”

After the Liturgy we will have some multicultural entertainment including a lion dance, food stalls/trucks, bouncy castles and face painting.  So pack your picnic rug and fold-up chairs and head on down to Mercy College for a lovely family evening together.

We have been extremely blessed to have the beautiful St John’s Bible here on display in our Chapel from 3.30pm until 5pm on the same day; and we hope that visitors can come before our 5pm liturgy to also view this exquisite work of art and belief with the illustrations depicting the modern world and its dilemmas.  This is a rare opportunity for us in Australia and I encourage you all to take advantage of the privilege we have to have this Bible available for display at Mercy College.

For further information, please call 9247 9223 and to register your attendance, please email our Director of Mission, Mrs Melissa Cartner at [email protected]
