From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

We have had a very busy and exciting few weeks of learning here at Grange, with more to come!

Our External School Review has been completed and we expect the report of the review in a couple of weeks time, which I will share with our school community as soon as it becomes available. Thanks to everyone involved for your contribution to enable us to continue to improve and move from a good and great school to one that is consistently outstanding.

On Thursday evening we had the Wakakirri performance by about 50 of our year 6/7 students at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Our school performance was one of 9 other primary schools and 3 high schools on the night. Our students did a fantastic job and were presented with two awards, the best primary school for-

  • Teamwork
  • Public speaking

We should be very proud of our performers in winning these awards.

Laila, Lachlan and Emily represented our school in the public speaking component, where they spoke on stage with the host in front of a large audience. Their speeches were undertaken with no notes, unlike the other 12 schools who had a written speech or cue cards. An amazing job in memorising their speech and then articulating it so well.

Very deserving winners for public speaking and working so well as a team for the performance.

Thank you to teachers Mary Xenides, Susan Wilson and John Mastropaolo for their roles in leading, supporting and attending the night. As you can imagine 12 performances made a long night and our students are to be also commended for their excellent behaviour in waiting for and after their performance time.

Congratulations to all Wakairri students for their outstanding performances.

The busy and exciting times continue with Sport’s Day on Friday 13th September, Tournament of the Minds on Sunday 8th September and the Festival of Music Year 5 Choir on Wednesday 11th September in the evening. Hope to see you at Sport’s Day and for Year 5 choir participant families at the choir performance.

World Principal Day

What a fantastic surprise it was at our last assembly to receive the framed poster, that is now on my office door and the video from students to celebrate World Principal's day. What a wonderful school community Grange is, a wonderful school to lead and one that I appreciate every day.

Regards, Grant

School Activities

2019 Japanese Competition

This year’s Japanese Hiragana Competition at Kidman Park Primary was a great adventure. It was an enjoyable experience for all competitors.

We didn’t know what to expect because it was our first time. We weren’t sure if we would have a chance at winning but we got points and found it fun the whole way through.

What made it an enjoyable experience was that just because we lost the Japanese competition, didn’t mean you couldn’t win other prizes!

We would like to thank the parents for transporting and the organisers who make this competition possible.

We would also like to thank Ms. Buggy who gave up her time to teach us and take us to the competition.

This was a great day and we wish to do it again. We recommend that other students have a go and try it out in the future.

Sincerely,

Finn, Jesse, Joe and Lachlan (Year 7 students)

Door Designs with Mr. Moyle

Throughout the term, some year 5’s, 6’s and 7’s have been busy changing the look of some classroom doors around the school. Using the Book Week theme of ‘Reading is my Secret Power’, the children worked in collaboration with a classroom teacher to design a door that best represented the ‘secret power’ of their classroom. The students were taught the design process beginning with idea generation, brainstorming, planning, sketching, client consultation and production of a design that they and their client (classroom teacher) were content with.

Habitat Dioramas

This term Rooms 24 and 25 have been working on reading and writing information reports. In pairs, we used books and iPads to research a chosen animal – focusing on the appearance of the animal and the necessary features of their habitat. Using this research, we then planned, designed and created habitat dioramas, knowing that they must include water and food sources for the animal. Each team worked extremely hard and we’re very proud of our final products. We are now working on creating Information report posters about our chosen animals.

Cleland Take Two

After a false start in Term 2, Room 21 and the Year 2’s of Room 6 finally got to head off to their Cleland excursion on Wednesday in Week 6. The visit coincided with their earlier science studies of Australian Animals.  Whilst the weather once again chose to stay damp and cold it didn’t affect the enthusiasm of the children as they made their way around Cleland discovering and observing a range of animals in their natural habitat along with being able to get up close and personal to feed other friendly native marsupials.

Both classes spent time in a well presented education session learning some new facts on a range of species and getting the opportunity to again pat some more unusual Australian fauna creatures.

Many thanks must go to the brave parents and caregivers who joined us for this adventure surviving the Hills weather and doing so with smiles on their faces.

Congratulations OSHC

Congratulations to Grange Primary School Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) on their recent "Inclusion Aware" Award. Another fantastic recognition of an outstanding service. Well done once again to Jasminka and her team.
