From the Principal's desk

Welcome to 2019

Although we have only been back a few days, it is great to see that the children have settled into their learning so quickly. I am also glad that the heat has relented a little and that it is not 40 plus this week! We welcome three new staff members to our school this year. Shae Montgomery and Sarah Titchmarsh are our new trainees who will be assisting in the office and in our literacy intervention program. Also Rohan Lelliott has joined us and will be leading the Student Wellbeing Team and teaching Science.  Over the coming weeks Rohan will be making contact with our families and generally supporting the wellbeing of all our students. School Statement of Values

Numurkah Primary School recognises the importance of the partnership between schools and parents to support student learning, engagement and wellbeing. We share a commitment to, and a responsibility for, ensuring inclusive, safe and orderly environments for children and young people.

This Statement of Values sets out our behavioural expectations of all members in this school community, including the principal, all school staff, parents, students and visitors. It respects the diversity of individuals in our school community and addresses the shared responsibilities of all members in building safe and respectful school communities.

Discrimination, sexual and other forms of harassment, bullying, violence, aggression and threatening behaviour are unacceptable and will not be tolerated in this school.

Our Statement of Values acknowledges that parents and school staff are strongly motivated to do their best for every child. Everyone has the right to differing opinions and views and to raise concerns, as long as we do this respectfully as a community working together.  To help us achieve our values, we promote and practice the following school wide positive behaviours of learning, caring, being responsible and respectful.

Please read the below the full document which can also be found on our web site along with all our other school policies.

Children are allowed to access their water-bottles from their bags during the class-time day. (Drinks other than water during class-time are not accepted). Sunscreen is available in all rooms but children can also use their own familiar brands from home. Sun-glasses (UV & safety approved) are also accepted as part of the Sunsmart program. Please make sure all items are labelled.

Swimming Program

Today all students received their permission form and information about the 2019 Swimming Program. Please ensure all permission forms and payment are returned by Thursday 7th February.

The continued success of our Swimming Program depends upon the valuable support from parents. Being involved as a helper is a rewarding experience. It is not a necessity that you are able to swim yourself. Should you have any queries, please contact your class teacher or the school office. All helpers are required to have a current Working With Children's Check which is available at no charge for volunteers. If you are able to help out please fill in the form attached to the Swimming Permission note or let the office know.

Assembly

Weekly school assemblies will now be held on Friday afternoons at 2:45 pm in the Prep-2 Open Learning Area. All families are invited to attend our assemblies.

Communication

Compass

Compass is a vital tool for communication between the school and families. Notifications about upcoming events, the school calendar, schedules etc are all available on Compass. This is also where families will book Student/Parent/Teacher Interviews and print Student Reports. Most of our families have logged onto and are using Compass. For families that have not yet logged on a letter with your username and temporary password has been sent home today. If you have any questions about Compass please see Danielle in the office next Monday.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend school every day. We request that absences are kept to a minimum where possible. Scheduling of appointments, family holidays etc should be done outside of school hours/days if possible. We understand that students will be absent when unwell, staying home to get better is much better than risking the student becoming more unwell or spreading the illness to classmates. When students are absent please notify the school by entering an approval on Compass or phoning the school. We are required by the Education Department to follow up all unexplained absences on the same day that they occur.  If a student has been marked not present with no explanation an automatic text message will be sent to families asking you to notify the school of the reason. Ongoing absences with no explanation will then be followed up with a phone call and/or letter home. We ask all families to assist us with this by notifying the school as soon as possible when a student is absent.

Canteen
