Book Week

The Library Celebrated Book Week with visiting author - Scot Gardner and storyteller Andy Wright.

Andy is our yearly regular storyteller at KDC and on Tuesday the 21st of August, he entertained our Year 7 with his frighting stories and unusual encounters!

On Wednesday the 22nd of August, our second Book Week celebration was a special visit from a very funny and clever author - Scot Gardner.

Year 8 students enjoyed Scot’s down to earth and witty stories. Students and Teachers were also given an opportunity to share their own stories of funny or terrifying experiences. Scot concluded his presentation with a short burst on the didgeridoo, which he played with vitality.

Thank You to the following students that introduced and showed gratitude to our visitors;

Khoi Nguyen 7G2, Shane I 7B2 .

Keegan D’Agostino 7G2, Ashnoor Mulhotra 8G1,

Remi Fogg 8B2 and Vanessa Nguyen 8B2.

Respectful Relationships

At Keilor Downs College, we want to create a culture that is respectful and accepting of all. The Student Voice team is working towards making people become more aware of the language they use both inside and outside of the classroom, and improve the school environment for everyone.
To represent our school’s focus on creating and enforcing an accepting culture, we want you to design a flag that represents this.
Your flag must relate to a respectful school culture, challenging gender stereotypes, and all together a school environment that is socially and mentally welcoming for everyone!!
Submit your entries to Ms. Young at the Curriculum Office by Friday 12th of October. Voting will commence at the beginning of Week 3, Term 4, where a design will be selected and sent to be professionally made.

The flag will be revealed to students on the 23rd of November for White Ribbon Day. Good Luck!
We aim for this idea to improve KDC for everyone, and improve the way people feel when they walk through the front gates.

10 Boys went to Keilor Park to compete in the Brimbank schools competition. They were coached by two Year 10 girls completing a Sports Leadership assessment.

Game 1 VUSC 32 d KDC 16 (Tevita 4 tries)

Game 2 Sunshine SC 32 d KDC 8 (Tevita and Nghiem 1 try each).

Boys went out on a very nice day last Friday 17 August.  They were very competitive, but it was some simple errors of ball security, being tackled over the side lines, and sometimes not quite being as big as the other sides which meant that we couldn't quite match them.  But we weren't disgraced.

Great moments: Tevita scoring 5 tries for the day.  Dennis twice marking the ball with several large opposition players bearing down on him. Aunese tackling a player twice his size and almost getting the player down, and Nghiem's 50 metre run down the sideline to score. Plus Reta coaching and making some great observations about what the boys needed to focus on.

Great to see Tevita and Frank's parents along to cheer.  Tevita's dad also spoke to players to give some advice, his knowledge coming from schoolboy rugby in Fiji and Sydney Grade Rugby.

All in all a great day.
