Another great year of teaching and learning

Life's a ball

If only you know it
And it's all

Just waiting for you
You're alive
So come on and show it
What a lot of livin' to do

Welcome back

Welcome back!  This promises to be an exciting year at Cecil Hills High School as we continue implementing our 2018-2020 school plan.  In terms of my introductory quote, we certainly have a lot to do this year and we look forward to building on our successes from 2018.

At Cecil Hills High School, our deputy principals move up with their grades so the same deputy principal maintains responsibility for your child’s education for their whole high school experience.  These are the grade responsibilities for our three deputy principals in 2019:

  • Mr Michael Lane – Year 6, Year 9 and Year 12
  • Mrs Denise James – Year 7 and Year 10
  • Ms Mel Scott – Year 8 and Year 11

Sources of Advice

Teachers work in partnership with parents.  Our teachers have the knowledge of teaching and parents have the knowledge of their child.  I encourage parents who have any questions or concerns to contact the school so that issues can be resolved quickly and fairly.  As a large school, there are many sources of advice for parents who have questions:

In the first instance, it is preferable to speak with the classroom teacher or subject-specific head teacher for classroom matters.  For other issues, parents should contact the relevant year adviser who will be able to assist.  We also have school counsellors and coordinators of other support programs including our diary program.  It is always best to contact the school early if you have any questions or concerns.

HSC  Results

I congratulate all of our teaching staff and students on another set of excellent HSC results.  We are all very proud of the achievements of our most recent Year 12 group.  In 2018, students at Cecil Hills HS received 47 x Band 6 results (a mark over 90%).  In addition, our students received 266 x Band 5 results (a mark between 80% and 89%).  The school’s HSC ranking in 2018 was 297th which positioned us higher than all other mainstream public schools in the Liverpool area.  Our highest performing courses were Biology, Business Services, Business Studies, Community and Family Studies, Earth and Environmental Science, English (Standard), English (Advanced), Information Processes and Technology, Physics, Senior Science and Society and Culture.

Special congratulations go to Sharon Tat who received an ATAR of 98.50, the highest ATAR in the graduating class of 2018 and to Milena Cugalj and Olivia Macmillan who were placed on the HSC All Round Achievers List for attaining Band 6 results in at least 10 units of study.

It has been a pleasure to hear from our HSC students and learn of the courses they received entry into and it is a testament to their collective hard work as a grade.

Our annual Year 12 Recognition Evening will be held on Tuesday, 12 February 2019 and we look forward to celebrating our fantastic results.

New staff

There are a number of new teachers joining Cecil Hills HS in 2019.  We are very fortunate to have some very experienced teachers from other schools joining us.  I would like to welcome the following teachers to our school:

  • English – Rania Zaidan, Trent Robinson
  • Science – Noor Naim, John Hong, Tanya Bottrill
  • PD/H/PE – Matt Evans, Rachel Heaslip
  • TAS – Kanan Itautoka, Josh Symons
  • CAPA – Tom Joannides, Ezgi Cakir
  • General Assistant – Jeff Williams

Save the date

Year 7 (2019) BBQ and Year 7 (2020) Information Evening

An information evening for Year 7 (2020) will be held on Monday, 25 February 2019 at 6.30 pm.

This will provide an opportunity for prospective parents and community members to learn more about our school and enjoy a guided tour of our state-of-the-art facilities.

Ms Dragana Cekic and Mr Nikolina Cupac, our year advisers for this year group, will be coordinating the event in conjunction with Mr Michael Lane, Deputy Principal.

This will also coincide with our normal Year 7 BBQ (starting at 5.00 pm).  As a result, we invite both Year 6 (2019) and Year 7 (2019) students, parents and families to this double event!

Your family contact details

Do we have your correct contact details? Your email address? Your telephone number?  Your residential address? If you haven't already done so, please complete the attached Family Contact Details Update Form and return it to the school office as soon as possible.

P&C Meetings

Our first P&C meeting for 2019 was attended by a very large number of parents.  Our next meeting will be held at 6:30pm on Monday, 4 March 2019.  There will be a repeat session at 9:30am on Thursday, 7 March 2019.

I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and parents of Cecil Hills High School, the best school in NSW.

Welcome to our wonderful Year 7 students

Year 7 have had a great start to Year 7!  Meeting new students, new teachers, new classrooms and a variety of lessons.

Parents and carers, we're looking forward to meeting you at our Year 7 Barbecue evening at 5.00pm on Monday, 25 February.

In December, Year 6 students enjoyed their Orientation Day where they participated in a range of team building activities throughout the day. It was a great day getting to know the students before they actually started their first day at Cecil Hills High School.  Thanks to all the students for participating in the many activities we had organised and to all the teachers and Year 10 and Year 11 students who helped make this day a huge success.

A huge thanks and congratulations to ALL students for their sensational attendance (over 800 students), enthusiastic participation and excellent behaviour at the carnival.

The Aquatopia Waterpark was a huge hit! Everyone enjoyed the fun of the Aquatower, the thrill of the giant slides, the calmness of the toddler pool or just socialising under the shade sails.

The House spirit was tremendous!  The seniors really got in the spirit with a range of outfits and looks. It was really great to see. Well done!

It is clear to see that the House system is continuing to be a huge success and all students and staff continue to respond with positive energy and enthusiasm.

Australian Schoolboys team

Both Jarrod Carluccio and Jarred McKinley had outstanding years on the football pitch in 2018. Both were rewarded with selection in the Australian Schoolboys team to tour UK and Ireland in January.

This is their accounts of their experience.

I had the honour of representing the Australian Schoolboys for a second time, this time I was in a leadership role as I would captain the team throughout the tour.

Throughout the 20 days that we were over there, I was able to experience playing against the best of the best in countries such as Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and lastly England! This would turn out to be a successful and impressive tour as we were able to only lose two of the six scheduled international games.

It was an honour and privilege to be able to represent Cecil Hills High School at the highest level and represent my country with pride.

I would like to thank the staff at Cecil Hills High School for providing both myself and Jarred McKinley with support and guidance through this process.

A special shout out to Jarred McKinley who performed excellent throughout the whole tour both on and off the pitch.  He was a true reflection of a Cecil Hills High School student.

Thank you.
Jarrod “doggie” Carluccio
