Principal's News

Dear Families

A huge thanks to the huge number of parents, friends and staff who came along on Election Day and supported the BBQ fundraising effort. It was such a huge community event and a lovely way community building experience.

We raised close to $4,000 dollars which will go towards refurbishing our bike area.

Prep Interviews for Next Year

Our first letters went home this week for our Prep interviews for next year. We're looking forward to meeting with our current and future families over the coming weeks. Part of the process will involve outlining the transition process for families over the second half of the year. If you have a sibling at Trinity who is due to begin Prep next year please touch base with the office to get an enrolment pack.

Tuning Into Kids

There is the opportunity for Parent to participate in a Tuning into Kids programme. Tuning Into Kids is a very popular programme which has been offered at a number of schools in Yarra. If you are interested in participating in the programme please read the attached information.

Painting of the exterior of the School

Painting to the exterior of the original school building has begun this week. As mentioned last week, we have been told that there will be little impact on learning as most of it will take place outside of the school grounds. The painting is expected to be completed within two-three weeks.

School Closure Day Next Friday

Just a reminder that our school will be closed next Friday as all staff attend Galilee Primary School, South Melbourne for our third day of Berry Street Training. Berry Street is an important part of staff wellbeing training and provides a strong, evidence based approach to wellbeing at our school.

New Flagpoles Completed

Our new flagpoles have finally arrived- it took 5 months! As we didn't want to harm the beautiful shady eucalyptus tree which was tearing into our previous flags, we needed to relocate our flag pole. We are now proud to fly the Aboriginal flag next to the Australian flag and look forward to using them on future morning assemblies.

Have a great week everyone!

Physical Education

Physical Education

The cold weather is starting to set in but students are still active and busy in PE. Just a reminder to wear their sports uniform on their PE day;Thursday = Prep/1, 1/2, 4/5, 5/6, Friday = 3/4. But also to dress for the appropriate weather. We are often outside for our lessons as we do not always have the opportunity to use the MPR.

The Prep/1/2’s have been hard at work learning how to kick with increasing accuracy and power. They are learning how to follow rules and identify fair play in the games and activities we play.

In Yr 3/4 the students are learning about Invasion games. They are exploring the concepts of attack and defence and how to use space in game situations. They are applying basic rules and scoring systems to small sided games to overcome challenges in the game. In our Cross country unit students also explored different types of fitness and staying healthy.

In Yr 5/6 students are preparing for the Winter Gala by exploring Invasions games such as Netball, Soccer and AFL. The SEDA soccer group are back this year to take the students for 4 weeks of skills and games activities. In our Cross Country unit students also started to examine the benefits of being fit and healthy and how this affects our wellbeing.

District Cross Country

On Wednesday 8th May, 25 students from Yr 3-6 went to Kevin Bartlett Res to compete in the District Cross Country event. Congratulations to all the students who ran, it is always a hard event but all the students were a credit to the school and performed their best.

Also a huge thank you to all the parents who came to help marshall at the event and cheer the runners on.

The following students came in the top 10 for their race and will now go on the the Divisional Event in Bundoora on Thursday 5 June;

12/13 yrs Boys - Will Stone 2nd, Tomasz Tamowick 5th, Oscar Phan 6th.

12/13 yrs Girls - Adeng Kolong 2nd, Philiana Wong 8th.

11 yrs Girls - Claire Mclynsky 10th.

9/10 yrs Boys - Deng Akol 5th.

This term all Yr 5/6 students will be participating in the Winter Gala on Friday 21st June at Kevin Bartlett Reserve and Swan Street Netball courts. As with all our sporting events we encourage parents to come along and help. Without parent helpers we cannot attend these events so please lend your assistance whenever you can.

State Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 24th April Philip Nguyen competed in the Victorian Schools State Swimming Competition at MSAC. Philip had qualified by coming first at the District trials then the Divisional level and finally the Regional competition. This is a huge achievement for Phillip and we were all very proud that he was able to represent Trinity at the State Finals for the 12/13 Boys Freestyle. On the day Philip was nervous but was ready to do the best he could, and swam his best time ever to take the Bronze Medal!

Congratulations Philip on all that you have achieved and well done to his mum Kim for supporting him all the way.

Fit Club

Although the weather is getting cold and the mornings are dark FIT club is still on.

Trinity Fit Club is a Free Before School program open to all TCS students every Thursday from 7.40am on the Oval or in the MPR if the weather is bad.

School Sports Day(Formerly Twilight Sports)

This year we are having our annual Sports day on Tuesday 28th May. The day will take a similar format to the previous Twilight Sport days and will be an opportunity for the students to compete in a range of different fun activities and earn points for their house. This day also gives our Yr 6 students the opportunity to display their leadership skills by planning, running and judging each activity. All parents are welcome to attend and cheer on the students as they move around the stations. Here is an approx timetable for the day;

8.45am = normal start time for students, please wear Sports uniform. Go to class with class teacher to mark role etc.

8.55am = class teachers bring students to oval and sit in class groupings

Social Justice
St Vinnies Winter Apeal

At Trinity Catholic School, we believe in social justice and try to live out the Gospel values through our actions.  One example of this, is through our current drive to support the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal.

The Winter Vinnies Appeal provides emergency relief to people at risk and experiencing homelessness.  We are asking for donations of any spare warm clothes or blankets.  A collection basket is located at the front of the school office.

Here is a reflection from two of our Mini Vinnie students:

"We from the Mini-Vinnies are collecting warm clothes and blankets for the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal.  Please support us by donating any spare items that you can’t use anymore.  We encourage you to think about all those cold homeless people on the streets and feel empathetic towards them.

Come on everybody, go make a difference because every little thing that we do matters.  Together we can transform lives!"    (An and Olivia, Mini Vinnie members).
