A perfect morning for a Book Week Parade

We were delighted to have a perfect sunny morning for our Book Week Parade. The students looked fabulous in their book character costumes. Thank you parents for your support. Thank you to the teachers too. Their costumes were fantastic and they were clearly having as much fun as the students!

We hope the students have many things to share with you about today and we hope the celebration of Book Week has further inspired their interest, enthusiasm and enjoyment in reading.  Check out the photos we posted this morning on our Facebook page. We have already received lovely feedback about the Book Week Parade: "Just wanted to say how fabulous it was to see Beaumaris Primary getting in the spirit of Bookweek this morning! Seeing the students and teachers dressed as their favourite characters & celebrating a love if literacy was just fabulous. Well done!"

A Date for your Diary: Whole School Working Bee
9th September

Sunday 9th September is our next scheduled Working Bee, starting at 9am.  If you can spare some time we would love your help to remove the large colourful boards attached to the Prep, Year 1 and Year 3 building in readiness for the demolition of the building later in the year.  We will also spend time pruning, tidying, weeding and mulching the native gardens along Herbert St.

Admin Team and Support Staff Week 13-17 August

In August each year we acknowledge and celebrate the amazing contribution and support we receive from our admin team and support staff. Their support and the assistance they offer our students, parents and teachers makes a huge difference in our school. Thank you Cath, Helen, Robyn, Ellie, Julia, Jo, Fiona, Lotte and Laura for all that you do for us each and every day.

Book Fair Open closes 4.00pm today

Thank you to all who have visited the  Book Fair this week.
Our students enjoyed browsing through the selection of books on display and some made a purchase to add to their personal collection.
Thank you to Mrs Julia Jones and Miss Lindy McManus for organising the Book Fair. Thank you to all our teachers who assisted with sales each morning and afternoon.
Thank you to parents for your support. Funds raised from purchases by families will enable the  purchase of books for our library  and ensure our book stock is continually replenished.

Whole School Planning 2019

At this time of year we begin forward planning for the new year and our planning relies on accurate enrolment information.  Families can assist us in two ways:

1. Prep Enrolments for 2019: A friendly reminder

If you have a child commencing in Prep in 2019 and the child is not yet enrolled please collect an enrolment form at the office or online and return it this week.

2. If you are relocating in the new year, please let us know now.

Sadly, as in all school communities, some families relocate at the end of the year. We will miss you and we wish you well. It is very helpful for our planning and much appreciated at this early stage, if you could please advise the office before the end of Term 3 if you know you will not be returning to BPS in 2019.

Parent Feedback Forum with David Anderson, Education Consultant

Thank you to the group of parents who came along to the session on Monday to share their insights and experiences. Their contributions were greatly appreciated and provided a parent perspective to inform both  the school moving forward in the short term  and  the development of our Strategic Plan 2019-22 later in the year.

Resilient Youth Australia

The Year 5 and 6 students once again participated in the annual Resilience Survey, conducted in conjunction with Bayside Council and Resilient Youth Australia.

The results have recently come in and are broken down into 3 formats. A snapshot report, an executive summary report and a year level report. We will continue to share results of the survey with you over the coming weeks.

Below is a snapshot of some of the responses our students gave to the following question.

"If you could magically do anything simply at the snap of your fingers, what is one thing you would do to support the wellbeing of young people?"

  • To beat world hunger.
  • Have everybody have food, housing and clothes.
  • For people to be able to stand up for one another.
  • Fairness for everyone and no bullying.
  • Stopping war, solving bullying, solving world hunger, helping people in need and making the world peaceful.
  • Ban plastic bags.
  • For people to accept that other people are different.
  • Make it so that people have a good life and achieve their goals.

Remember: Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness

What are three things that went well for you today?

What are the best things that happened to you today?

Who are you most grateful for and why?

What are you looking forward to most about tomorrow?

Buy a Bale Rural Aid initiative

After the horrific reports of the drought hit our screens, we had many students in the school decide that Beaumaris Primary School needed to take action and help.

Congratulations to Caitlyn and Jasper who both showed the initiative to drive our fundraiser today with the support of or Junior School Councillors. All the money raised from our donations today are going directly to the Buy a Bale Rural Aid Initiative.

Snack Shack Update & Sushi Lunch order by 3pm today

Chicken noodle soup was another success this week and we will continue to serve it at recess and lunch on Mondays until stock runs out.  Dim sims are no longer available on the menu as we cannot purchase the healthy variety any more. Also, frozen pineapple has been removed in order to reduce rubbish. Fresh slices of seasonal fruit will be available over the summer months. Qkr! Sushi Lunch is coming up on Monday 20th and orders must be made on Qkr! by 3pm today, late orders cannot be accepted.

Sustainability heroes

Beaumaris Primary School is very proud of its sustainability practices and this week we would like to acknowledge some fantastic Waste Warriors.  Each Monday Ruby walks to school with a rubbish bag and collects pieces of rubbish she finds on her way to school.  When at school, she uses the different bins to distribute this rubbish.

Edie is very proud of our beaches and believes it is important to keep them clean and tidy.  Each month Edie commits a few hours of her weekend to pick up rubbish at the beach.

Clean Up the Beach is officially called '3193 Beach Patrol'. You donate a couple of hours of your time to catch up with your community and to see how much rubbish goes into our beaches each month. The location changes from beach to beach in Beaumaris and Black Rock every month. If you become a member they will send you an email telling you where and when it is. You spend 1.5 hours picking up rubbish and 1.5 hours sorting the rubbish out. If you participate you will get a free top to let other people know that you are part of the group. Make sure you bring your friends and family along so we can double the amount that we pick up. For more information go to marinecare.org.au. The next one is on the 1st of September.     By Edie 5DG

Uniform - new and second-hand

The Uniform Shop is open for sales of new and second-hand uniform on the first Tuesday of each month from 8.45 to 9.15am. If that day is during school holidays, then the shop will open the first Tuesday of the new term instead. Second-hand uniform is just another great way to recycle items which are of no further use at home. Clean, good condition second-hand official Beaumaris Primary School uniform is in high demand, so if you have any items available (including bags too!), please bring them to the office. New uniform is ordered via Qkr! or by one of the order forms available on our website and in the school foyer.

Greatest Showman/Circus Fundraiser

Start typing your article in here...

Fundraising

As you know our big fundraiser for this year is our Greatest Showman/Circus themed parent social night on Sat 27th Oct at Sandy by the Bay. Please save the date if you haven't already. Funds raised will go towards ongoing improvements to the playground spaces.  We have a fabulous team already volunteering but do need some more help. So if you would like to volunteer for any of the below please let me know.

  • I have lots of donations that need collecting from different areas so would love some volunteers for this
  • We need 2 or 3 people to ask the Concourse shops for donations
  • I have a few other shops to target that need donation letters dropped off to and followed up. You can let me know how many you are able to approach. Every business approached helps.

We have two school families who are currently sponsoring us (thank you LAMI & BC Dental) with a few more coming onboard soon. However we would LOVE as many sponsors as possible. Sponsorship starts from $250 so let me know if this interests you and I can send you a sponsorship document.

We need lots of donations for our online auction so if you can donate anything it will be gratefully received. We are also making up hampers so if you have any new but unwanted pressies hiding in your cupboards please drop them off to the office.

Finally if you have any contacts for donations please get in touch.

Many thanks
