From the Principal...

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese’s Primary School,

It is difficult to believe that we are almost at the end of another school year. The age-old saying, ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’, seems to apply as we rush towards the end of Term Four.

It feels like only last week that we were beginning the last term of the year and here we are now facing the last couple of weeks before the summer holidays.

I know as I look at the School Calendar that the term will continue to fly by with the last few weeks full of our ‘end of year’ events. It is easy to get caught up in the business of the term and begin to feel overwhelmed. At this time of year, I ask that parents, teachers and students continue to show kindness and patience to one another.

While we are preparing to end the school year, the Catholic church is beginning the season of Advent. Advent is a period of waiting, waiting for Christ the King to be born. It is a season of hope and joy. Yesterday, we held our annual Family Advent Wreath Making session. It was pleasing to see many families join us and spend time with their children creating wreaths that can be used at home in preparation for Christmas.

Some history and information of the Advent Wreath…

  • The wreath is round to symbolise God’s unending love

  • It is usually made of evergreen leaves to symbolise the hope of eternal life that Jesus brings to us

  • Purple candle number one represents HOPE

  • Purple candle number two represents PEACE

  • Pink candle number three represents JOY

  • Purple candle number four represents LOVE

  • A white fifth candle may be added to the middle on Christmas Day and represents CHRIST

On Thursday, December 6 from 5:00pm, the students of St Therese’s will be presenting a Christmas Carols Concert to our learning community. The teachers and students have worked hard to prepare for this event and we encourage all families to attend. It is sure to fill us with joy and get us in the mood for Christmas!

From 5:00pm families are welcome to bring their picnic rugs and enjoy a BYO picnic on the oval and then from 6:00pm the concert will take place in the hall. Ms Andrews and our Taiko drummers will perform for your enjoyment some Christmas carols before the concert begins.

I hope you are looking forward to this event as much as I am!

A reminder that by the end of November families are required to settle their accounts. The school will work with those families who are suffering genuine hardship, please contact the office if you require assistance. For those who are slow in settling accounts, we request priority be given to payment as soon as possible. The school has many options for families to pay school fees.

  • Please come along to the Parent/Carer’s Thank You Afternoon Tea that will take place on Tuesday, December 4 at 2:30pm till 3:30pm. This is an opportunity for the school to celebrate the partnership that has occurred between our families and the school. We hope to see you there.

  • Orientation Day for our Year Six students transitioning to St Peter’s will take place on Tuesday, December 4

  • Orientation Day for all other students will take place on Tuesday, December 11

  • End of year reports will be mailed out to families on Thursday, December 13

I hope that all have a great week.

Yours in Christ,

Michelle Bruitzman

Japanese Drumming Concert

Toshi Sakamoto has an annual concert each year and it is coming up soon. Tickets are affordable and the entertainment is awesome. If your children have an interest in his drumming and Noriko Hadano’s shamisen playing, then please treat them and yourself to this concert. Seats are limited so please book quickly or let me know by next Friday. When your children go to Year 7 and they still like Taiko drumming, they can join his classes along with me. Sincerely, Andrews Sensei
