Rubbish Free School Initiative

Over the last few years Valkstone has been working towards operating as a Rubbish Free School. This is a practical, real and positive way to teach waste reduction and sustainability and encourage healthy eating.

Food scraps

All of our food scraps are collected and used to feed our worms and for composting.

Snack Wrappers/Soft Plastics

Unfortunately we cannot recycle soft plastics at school and these are our biggest waste issue.

We encourage students to bring their snacks and lunch in reusable containers and will be suggesting to all students that they take home any soft plastics to be recycled at their local supermarket. Both Coles and Woolworths offer these services.

Thank you for helping us work towards wiping out waste and becoming Waste Warriors!
