Principal's Report

From The Principal

On Tuesday of last week, we held our annual multi-cultural assembly.  This was a very special event, as it provided us with the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of our school community.  Our secondary SRC organised the assembly, which involved some amazing cultural dances, songs, presentations and recitals.  It was good to see so many parents in attendance too.  The day was an excellent example of what makes Carwatha such a special place.  Thank you to the secondary SRC for organising the assembly, Ms Bawa and Ms Spina for their support, the students who dressed in cultural costumes and the parents for so proudly supporting the day.

On Wednesday, September 7th, we had our School Review day.  An independent reviewer worked with senior staff and school council president, Michele Coxhill, to discuss current achievements and future directions for the school.  The reviewer will provide us with a report which will help to guide us in the development of a new strategic plan.

Last Saturday, 16 of our secondary students performed in the mass dance in the Victorian State Schools’ Spectacular at Hisense arena.  Alison Hughes featured in a dance ensemble. The show was outstanding and all of our students did themselves and their school proud.  Thanks must go to teachers, Erin Carter and Deb Karambinas who supported the students through rehearsals and / or the performances.  Thank you also to ex-student, Mitchell Vandoras who assisted.

Thanks to the parents who attended parent – teacher night / afternoon last week.

Once again, a very busy term, full of many opportunities for our students to learn and grow, both inside and outside the classroom.   Term 3 ends on Friday, September 16th.  Students will be dismissed at 2.30 p.m.   Term 4 begins on Monday October 3rd.

I would like to wish all of our families a relaxing and enjoyable break.

Inter School Sport

On the 23rd of August the table tennis team went out to the Oasis Centre in Dandenong for interschool sport.  The day was filled with fun  and ups and downs.  One of the boys,  won a game and the girls doubles won one set each. The day was soon over for us, so  then we travelled to the Dandenong Basketball stadium to support the basketball team.   We were then picked up with the futsal team to go back on the bus. All in all we had a great day.

Primary Art

Students in Grade 3 and 4 have been busy learning how to draw a peacock with oil pastels. We learnt how to break the picture up into shapes, lines and colours to create a peacock of our own. Different oil pastel techniques were used such as flicking, smudging and blending. We then used a roller to roll blue/yellow/green food dye across the background. Don’t they look fantastic!

Fundraising Comittee

If you would like to volunteer to come onto the Fundraising Committee please just contact Michelle Coxhill or Wendy Parkinson.  We meet just before school council 8 times a year (you don’t have to come to all)  and we run events during the year that if you are available you could volunteer to help.

Parent Teacher Night BBQ

The fundraising committee run for the first time, a BBQ on Parent teacher night! It was hugely successful with lots of families enjoying a sausage and a drink whilst waiting for their appointments. It was great initiative and raised over $290 for the College. Thank you to all the staff, students, and parent helpers that make our events such a great success. A Special thank you to Garrie Rushy – Master BBQ chef, Ann Copley, ever willing to help on every occasion, and Michelle Coxhill who is an extraordinary leader, helper and advocate for the College.

Pie Drive

Week 1 Term 4 we will be sending out forms for our latest pie drive.
