Assistant Principal's Update
Dear Families, Students and Community members,
We are now using Compass for many key aspects of school life, including:
• Learning Tasks so you can view your child’s performance in Benchmark Tasks and SACs
• Progress and Semester Reports
• Student data tracking – NAPLAN and other assessment data
• Booking Parent/Teacher Interviews
• Monitoring attendance and authorising absences
• Paying for camps and excursions
• Giving consent for sport, camps, and excursions
• Contacting teachers via email
At the end of Week 8, all grades and comments for Benchmark Tasks and SACs that have been completed, marked, and moderated will be visible. This will be closely followed by Semester One Progress Reports which will be released for all students at Mordialloc College and will help to inform discussions at Parent/Teacher Interviews.
It is crucial that parents log in to Compass to book appointments for Parent/Teacher Interviews and check the Learning Tasks tab and Progress Reports.
SAC results will be reported using a school based assessment scale that aligns with VCAA assessment advice for each individual subject. This scale ranges from Very Low to Very High:
Note: This potential equivalent is dependent upon students matching their performance in SACs with their performance in the end of year exam, therefore must be treated as a guide rather than an indicative result. Due to the moderation and scaling process, the end of year exam is the most weighty determinant of each students study score.
Benchmark Tasks are reported using the Victorian Curriculum levels of:
Benchmark tasks will also be accompanied by short comments focussed on what your child achieved and how they can improve.
An additional assessment will be conducted for Year 9 students on March 13. The results of this will allow teachers to better meet the needs of all students and better inform the development of Year 9 exams and the course counselling process in Term 3.
There continues to be a lot happening at Mordialloc College and this week we have already had over 100 student leaders presented with their badges by Tim Richardson MP and Monica Bladier, representing Mark Dreyfus QC MP at a whole school assembly. There was also a Working Bee to finish the extension of the kitchen garden where several staff and VCAL students worked tirelessly in the heat to keep the project on track.
Lastly, a huge congratulation on behalf of the Mordialloc College community to two of our students: Vuna Ofahengaue for his success in the Athletics Victoria Junior Track & Field Championships where he won a Silver Medal in the U15 Shotput, Bronze Medal in 200m hurdles, and a Bronze Medal in Discus. He will now be traveling to Sydney 12-15th March to compete in Australian Athletics Junior Championships. Congratulations to Erin Reilly who also won a Bronze Medal in Javelin at the State Championships.
Mr. Andrew Moffat
