Principal's Report

From the principal

This will be our final newsletter for the year, however there is still plenty happening around the school.

Wednesday night’s Secondary Awards Night was a great success.  It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the success of many of our students in the areas of academic achievement, citizenship, sport and leadership.

Some of the major award recipients were:

The School Captains for 2017 were announced at Awards Night.  Congratulations to the four students who were selected from an outstanding field of candidates to take on this very important role in 2017.  I have no doubt that they will be outstanding role models for other students.  The 2017 School Captains will be:

Dylan Amante

Jordan Hallett

Kirsten Hallett

Jarvis Ho

The Primary concerts last week were an outstanding success.  The audiences loved the amazing performances by our students, who all had a wonderful time.

2017 Year 7 students attended Orientation Day on Tuesday December 6th and Year 6 students are looking forward to their Graduation on December 13th.  Activities week begins next Wednesday for students in Years 7, 8 & 9.

We will be farewelling a number of staff at the end of this year. Rowena Apollonio, Mithuna Thiravasagan, Nyssa Fabrizzio, Melissa Jackman, Chris Willis, Morgan Davies, Sam Trevethan and Larissa Webley will be leaving us to take up positions in other schools or to pursue other options. Romina Russell will be commencing Parental Leave.  Some of our support staff are also moving on.  Kylie Quinn will be taking up a position at another school, Mary Whittaker is taking on family responsibilities and Bill Wallace is retiring. I would like to thank them all sincerely for their contribution to Carwatha and wish them all the best for next year and the future.

Reports will be available online through Compass from Thursday December 15th.

Students will be dismissed at 12.30 on Tuesday, December 20th and school begins for students next year on Tuesday, 31st January.

As this is my final newsletter before I retire at the end of the year, I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to be part of your lives.  I have developed valuable and valued relationships with students, staff and families in the 28 years that I have worked at Carwatha. I love this school and I have loved every minute of my association with it. Carwatha will always have a very special place in my heart and I will miss it more than words can express.   Carwatha College P-12 is a great school where there is a strong sense of community.  I know that it will continue to go from strength to strength in the years to come.

Best wishes for the future.

Work Experience

Congratulations to the Year 10 students who have been out on Work Experience this week. We are looking forward to reading the employer evaluations. Thank you to the many parents who helped support their child to find a work experience location. We hope all of the students participating have found it to be an experience they can learn from as they continue to plan their further study options and consider the world of work.

2017: A suggestion for current Year 9 students is to start thinking now about where you might like to do your work experience next year. It is never too early to start networking and talking with people about the prospect of securing a great location. Students that took time planning for this year’s block found really awesome locations so start your thinking now!! I will advise dates for next year’s work experience block once they are confirmed at the start of 2017

Year 12 News from VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre)

How to get your ATAR

ATAR and VCE results are released on Monday 12 December 2016 at 7am (AEDST). Year 12 students can receive their ATAR  in four ways:

  1. Log on to the VCE Results and ATAR website after 7am on the morning results are released.
  2. Send an SMS request to receive your results on your mobile phone. Read how to request to receive results
  3. If you have downloaded the VTAC CourseSearch app, you can link your VTAC account to view your ATAR from 7am on the morning that results are released.
  4. Wait for your results to arrive in the mail on Tuesday 13 or Wednesday 14 December.

*VTAC  Payment deadline is Monday 19th  December at 4pm . VTAC Applicants who have not paid the course application processing fee by this date will not be eligible for ANY offers.

Year 12 students will get their results on Monday 12th December (if they have paid the necessary fees.) Please find attached to this newsletter IMPORTANT Change of preference information with all the times and dates for assistance next week. *** If student require any assistance with change of preference please ring the school to make a time to come in and see me. We anticipate being very busy with students next week so it is really important to make a time. Students can also email me on [email protected]

I need all Year 12 students and their families to remember that on Monday when the ATAR’s are released that if plan A doesn’t work, there are still 25 more letters in the alphabet and that your ATAR does not define who you are as a person. There are many different pathways to get  to your dream course, role, etc!! Pop in and see us we will help you set up a plan!

In closing off the 2016 year I wanted to say a huge thank you to the Carwatha staff that have helped the careers team deliver the many different programs and events that we have run over the year- it is a huge team effort and we appreciate everyone’s support! Srpecial thanks to the Year Level Co-ordinators, special elective teachers, Health Education teachers, the office & library staff, Inclusion staff, maintenance staff and the tech team.

A special thank you to our principal Bronwyn Hamilton for always valuing Careers education. Bronwyn has ensured that students at Carwatha have had access to amazing opportunities. The many varied experiences students have at Carwatha help them to make informed decisions about future education, training and work aspirations. I’d like to wish Bron all the very best in her retirement. May it be one full of happiness and good health!

We would like to wish the Carwatha Community a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing and safe break over January.  We both look forward to working with you in 2017!!
