Principal's Report

Wow! August already.

Yesterday, we had a fabulous roll up for our second ‘Launch into Learning’ session. This is where we invite future 2020 students to come and experience what our great school offers.

The children enjoyed an engaging Science lesson with Mrs Evans. The focus of the experience was on ‘sound’. The children made their own ‘maraca’ and experimented with different sounds that they could make.

In regards to 2020 enrolments, if there are any siblings that haven’t yet enrolled for next year if you could contact the Office for enrolment forms and if you know of anyone, a neighbour, or someone from a friendship circle, who has a child ready to start school next year can you please encourage them to contact the school.

Coming up very soon, on Friday 9th August we have our School Disco for all year levels. The Disco is held in the school hall. It is a fabulous night and I am looking forward to again being part of the ‘grooving’! I would like to sincerely thank our Parents Association for organising and coordinating another fun event for our students to enjoy.

School Website

The new website has been launched. Thank you to Richard Wang, Michelle Huppe and Tahni Ross for all their work to make this happen. We thought to encourage more people to access the site we would run a mystery competition. A question pertaining to the website will be in my section of the newsletter each fortnight. Students will need to write their answer down with their name and grade and hand it to their teacher. The first correct answer drawn out at assembly on Monday will receive a prize. So, you must have your answer in Friday or before school Monday.

The mystery question for this week is 'Where on the website can you find the link to the schools Rocket Newsletter?'

Fete Update

Planning is well underway. The two areas where we are continuing to look for support are:

  • Major Raffle prizes
  • Stall Holders

Please contact the Office if you can assist with this.

During August and September, we will be having some free dress days to collect items that we will need for the Fete. The first of these days will be next Friday 9th August. Children will be able to come to school in free dress and bring along with them a 170, 180 or 200 gram block of chocolate for the ‘chocolate toss’ which I am sure will be a popular activity at the Fete.

Recognition of Service

I would like to bring to your attention that recently Mrs Mann received official recognition for 45 years service in teaching. Merrilyn attended a special afternoon where she was presented with her certificate by the Minister for Education, James Merlino. This is truly an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations Merrilyn!

We have received approval from the DET North East Region for our Aerobics Team and staff to compete in the Nationals at Broadbeach Queensland on the 16th and 17th August. We wish them all the very best for the competition. Go Syndal!!

Science Talent Search

Earlier this year it was suggested by one of our parents that we might like to enter the Science Talent Search (STS) which is an annual science-based competition open to all primary and secondary students in Victoria. The Science Talent Search fits closely with the Victorian Curriculum philosophy of teaching and learning.

It is with excitement that I can tell you that we have 12 students from the 3/4 Year level who have entered the competition: Vidya, Kartikeya, Luvina, Isha, Shantanu, Natasha, Luca, Oneli, Keiran, Vishnu, Joe S, and Samyak. These students have entered the Primary Poster Division, the theme of which is Destination Moon: More Missions, More Science. This of course fits in well with 2019 being the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. The judging takes place this Saturday morning at Methodist Ladies College in Kew. Thank you to Mrs Evans for the support she has offered the team and to Miss Ivin who will be accompanying the group on Saturday. We wish all our students the very best for Saturday and look forward to expanding our involvement in the Search in 2020.

Students are able to borrow sports equipment at morning recess, which they can then use again during lunchtime. Our Sport and House Captains co-ordinate the borrowing from the sports store. Students are encouraged to borrow equipment to enable them to enjoy playing games with their friends and to also practice their skills. We also talked about playing safely and being responsible with the equipment.
