From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

If you have ever sat and googled gratitude, one comes up with pages and pages of suggestions.  It is important to realise that just having “things” doesn’t always equate to gratitude. Showing gratitude is much more than a simple’ thanks’ without further thought.

Practising gratitude daily goes a long way to improving your happiness in all areas of your life. Gratitude opens the door to more relationships, improves physical and psychological health, enhances empathy and reduces aggression, helps with sleep and improves self esteem.

We live in such a busy world. Sometimes we should take stock and ‘smell the roses’ as they say and be thankful.  Remember to let the people in your life know just how much you appreciate them. When was the last time you performed a Random Act of Kindness?

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea at Grange

The staff at Grange Primary recently participated in a fantastic morning tea organised by Claudia Broadway and her team for the Biggest Morning Tea. They raised $600 for the Cancer Council. Well done!

School Activities

Western Adelaide Shores Education Expo

Last Tuesday night, the Western Adelaide Shores held an Education Expo at The Lakes Hotel, West Lakes. It showcased all the things that are available in public education in our area. Thanks to Chris Philbrook and Luke Springer who organised the fantastic interactive Primary STEM display. If you missed it, stay tuned for next year.

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week was acknowledged by Grange Primary School with several events and activities. These included a visit to the Kaurna Cultural Centre by the Nunga students, where they enjoyed various activities and a BBQ lunch on the lawn.

Irene Zarlenga, a Year 2 teacher here at Grange, gave a talk in our staffroom when she shared her teaching experiences and personal journey within the indigenous community and how she links indigenous teaching within the curriculum. Irene is one of the many passionate teachers at Grange who incorporates indigenous culture in their classroom learning.

An assembly was organised and run by Nick Warren and our Student Leaders. It began with Jackson presenting the Acknowledgement to Country followed by a song by Jett, one of our very talented students. Parent Danielle gave a talk sharing her story and perception of Reconciliation Week and engaged the students in repeating words in her language.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in making Reconciliation Week so successful.

SAPSASA Knockout Competition

We have had several teams competing in the SAPSASA Knockout competition recently. The following are the results at the time of publication

NETBALL

The girls, coached by Linda Follett, Year 3 teacher, after winning their first round match to reach the second round against Nazareth College last Friday when they were outclassed but tried their best. Great job girls

FOOTBALL

Both boys and girls played their second round matches last week and both have advanced to the third round. The boys will be playing against Largs Bay Primary School next Tuesday here at Grange. The girls are waiting to hear when their next match against Greenwith Primary School will be. The boys are coached and supervised by Nick Godlevsky and the girls by Year 7 teacher Bryan Birchall.

SOCCER

Boys and Girls both played their first round matches last Thursday 7th June, with the boys advancing to the next round and the girls playing a hard fought match but unfortunately were defeated. Thanks to Year 6/7 teacher John Mastropaolo for assisting with both teams.

Thank you to everyone who assists with the Knockout competitions and congratulations to all the students who participate.

BADMINTON

On Thursday 18th May, Sonya Boeck accompanied 4 of our students to a SAPSASA Badminton Competition. The girls played several games during the day and had a mix of wins and losses. This was the first ever team we have nominated to play in the Badminton competition so well done Bao-Nhi N, Nicole T, Danija C and Garima S from Year 7 for representing Grange so admirably.
