From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

As part of our continuous school improvement process, we will be involved in an external school review with a Department for Education review panel.

The process of external school review is to support us to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools.

All government schools are externally reviewed every 3 years.

The focus of the external school review is to evaluate our school's performance. The review panel includes a review officer and a trained review principal. Our school's review will occur on the 19th and 20th August 2019.

The review panel will identify aspects of our school's improvement that have been verified through the review process, as well as the improvements that we need to make in the future.

During the external school review, some students, parents, governing council members and staff will be asked to provide information to the review panel in a number of ways.

These include:

* individual interviews

* group discussions (with students, staff or parents)

* meetings (governing council, staff meetings)

* visits to classrooms

We appreciate everyone's support and time in helping us with the external school review process.

If you do not want your child to participate in the external school review please contact the front office by Friday 16th August.

If you would like more information please contact me on 8353 2688.

Regards, Grant

Year 2

Last term the Year 2 classes studied Australian Animals. Glenn Shuttleworth, a volunteer from Monarto Zoo came to share information about the endangered Tasmanian Devils and some interesting facts about South Australian Zoos.

We enjoyed great sessions with Glenn and the classes raised over $100 to donate to the Monarto Zoo Tasmanian Devils Program.

District Basketball - Week 1

On Wednesday, the 24th of July, both girls and boys from year 6 and 7 competed in a district wide basketball tournament at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre. During the tournament the girls played 6 games and the boys played 5 games. Both Grange teams won every game played, putting them both through to the state finals in week 9. While playing all students represented Grange by showing the school values. The boys team won every game leading up to the final where they versed Pennington, winning by upwards of 10 points. The girls team convincingly won every game but did not have a final due to a lack of teams. At the end of the day, everyone was worn out and ready to head home and start thinking about the next round. A big thanks to the two coaches, John Mastropaolo and Trudy Sheffield and to all the spectators and supporters who made it possible.

By Sergio Barone, on behalf of the boys and girls basketball team.

Where's the Maths in Swimming
By Room 12

During our week of swimming Ms Abela asked us to find the maths in swimming. We listed as many as we could and here are some of them.

  • There are about 4 to 5 swimming groups in our session
  • There are 5 lifeguards
  • If you did 10 laps of the 25m lap pool you would’ve swam 250 metres
  • Adelaide Aquatic Centre’s phone number is 8203 7665
  • The depth of the leisure pool is 0.9 metres
  • The Adelaide Aquatic Centre has a 4-star rating.
  • The opening hours are 6:00am to 9:00pm
  • The price for an adult to enter is $8.50
  • Swimming lessons start from 6 months old
  • The temperature of the lap pool is approximately 27 degrees Celsius
  • It takes 20 minutes to 30 minutes to get to swimming from Grange
  • It takes approximately 10 minutes to get in the pool after arriving
  • The deep pool’s depth is 2.5 metres to 5 metres
  • The lap pool is 1.1 metres to 2 metres deep
  • It takes approximately 5 seconds to go down the slide
  • If you jump from the 10-metre diving board to the bottom of the deep pool you would’ve travelled 15 metres
  • We left the pool at 11:25am each day
  • It’s open 7 days a week
  • You pay $4 to get a locker for a day
  • On public holidays the opening hours are 7:00am to 7:00pm
  • It takes approximately 12 minutes to get dressed
  • We were there for 2 hours a day

Ryley's Haircut for a Good Coarse

At the beginning of the year, after watching both her Nonna and her Nanna lose their hair to cancer treatment, Ryley Jae came to me and asked if she could donate her hair to make a wig. We popped on the internet to research how we’d go about that and discovered her hair wasn’t quite long enough to meet the Australian standard.  Ryley has quietly spent the past 6-7 months growing her hair and yesterday, when we went to have a trim, discovered her hair had finally reach the required length, so she bravely went for the full chop! (with a few tears from her and I both. haha).  We are sending the beautiful locks off to ‘Wigs For Kids’ this weekend.

I think you could agree, Ryley looks great and SO grown up!

Ryley's Mum,

Room 34 and Room 21 Planting Day

On the 19th of June Room 34 and their cat buddies Room 21, went into the awesome Charles Sturt community to plant trees and bushes with Charles Sturt Council. They got to plant all different varieties of plants but mainly Australian native plants and bushes.

We would like to thank Charles Sturt Council for helping us plant trees and bushes. Planting trees and bushes not only helps parks and properties look nicer but also it helps our environment.

Thank you.
