Photo: Celebrating Catholic Education Week

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese's,

On Friday of last week, a notice from our Mini Vinni team of students was sent home. The team is asking for donations of canned food goods to be brought to school which will be offered to Vincent de Paul at the 'Most Sacred Heart of Jesus' Mass to be held on Wednesday, June 26.

At Assembly, we will display the donated goods. Students can earn House Points by bringing in their donations. I thank you all in anticipation of your support of this most worthy cause.

Japanese Prayer Garden update

This is the last week we will be calling for garden designs. Over the holidays, we will finalise the design and share this with you early in Term 3. I would like to thank those families who have entered their ideas and they will continue to be on display in the building near the Year One rooms.

Staff News

On Friday afternoon, I sent out a letter on Caremonkey to inform the community that Mr Paul Cowan will be leaving St Therese’s at the end of this term to take up the position of principal at St Gerard’s in Dandenong North. While he will be sadly missed, this is an exciting opportunity for Paul. On Monday, June 24 at 2:30pm, we are holding an extra special assembly to formally thank and farewell him. I hope that many of you will join us at assembly to wish him well.

Please keep Carmel Perrins in your prayers as she recovers from a health issue. She has been absent for most of this term and she anticipates to return at the beginning of Term 3. Mai Weinberg will continue to replace Carmel for the remainder of Term 2. I would like to thank the parents of 1P for their support and understanding during this time.

Please keep Lyn Kelly in your prayers as she is in hospital at the moment, recovering from pneumonia. I went to visit Lyn on Sunday and can report she is in good spirits and keen to get back to work!

Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) information

You may be aware that on Wednesday 19 June 2019 the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Act (2017) comes into effect. What is being referred to as ‘VAD’ is a combination of what in plain-speaking is more commonly known as physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia. The attached pastoral letter has been issued jointly by the Archbishop of Melbourne and the Bishops of Ballarat, Sandhurst and Sale. The pastoral letter is accompanied by the document We Care which reminds us that, “Just as the early Christians were, we too, are called to accompany and care for those who are suffering”. We Care provides ways in which those who conscientiously object to this law can accompany people who suffer.

Please take the time to read these documents for your information and consideration.

I leave you with a tweet from Pope Francis to ponder.

The Holy Spirit calls all of us and helps us discover the beauty of being together and of journeying together, each in his or her own language and tradition but happy to be amongst brothers and sisters.  - Pope Francis

God Bless,

Michelle Bruitzman

If your child needs to be taking medication at school, please bring it to the office and fill out the required form.  Thank you.

Stickers can be brought into school and placed into the box in the foyer or at the box at Woolworths, Cranbourne North. Sticker sheets are available at the office.

Thank you for your participation.

Winter Uniform is now Compulsory

Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform. All St Therese's uniforms are available at PSW in Hampton Park, Price List Attached.

Please make sure all uniforms are clearly marked with your child's name and please check it regularly. Some pens tend to fade after washing and iron-on stickers can crack and peel.

Upcoming Fundraising Events

This year, we are fundraising to update the children’s playground equipment and to create garden spaces around the school, such as a sensory garden and/or a prayer garden. Our aim is to raise $10,000 in 2019. Please help by volunteering for one or more of the fundraising events.

To date, we have raised just over $1900.
