Principal's Report

Soiree Success

Over the last two weeks we have seen two Soiree performances. Firstly the Year 3 and 4 students with their fantastic singing and choreographed dancing and then last night the Year 1 and 2 ‘bugs’ who entertained and delighted their families with a wonderful performance based on their learnings about minibeasts. We are all very proud of the students and grateful to the teachers for the way in which they promote the performing arts learning for all students.

Brodie Thomson

All of us at Ormond are thinking of Brodie Thomson, our Communications Officer, who is recovering at home following her sudden admission to hospital last week. We are in communication with Brodie and we are confident that she will be back with us in the near future.

Twilight Market

Planning is well underway for the Twilight Market to be held on Friday, 21st of November. This is a major Ormond community fundraising event which brings all of us together to have fun and celebrate our great school. The team of parent volunteers are working industriously on the many aspects of the Twilight Market and it is important that we acknowledge the energy and expertise that these parents bring to the event.

Working Bee

A Working Bee is scheduled for Sunday, 16th of November from 9:00 am until 12 noon. Attendances at working bees of late have been disappointing with less than a dozen people pitching in. It’s time more of our community gave an hour or so to this regular task which we all share. Come along and join with me and the band of volunteers. The focus will be on tidying the yard and will complement the repair work on the tables and seats in the yard completed by the handyman. I encourage all parents to come along with their barrows, shovels and brooms to clear the courts in time for the Twilight Market to be held later in that week.

School Organization 2015

The enrolment for the start of the 2015 school year is likely to be around 415 students. Forty-six Prep students will begin their formal school education at Ormond in January next year. The class structure for 2015 will be on the basis of seventeen single year-level classes from Prep to Year 6. There will be two Prep classes, three Year 1 classess, three Year 2 classes, two Year 3 classes, two Year 4 classes, three Year 5 classes and two Year 6 classes. Specialist programs are most likely to be in PE, Visual Arts & ICT. Library will be the taken by each class teacher and the well-resourced and successful Korean program will continue to be the Language other than English. There is no scope in the school budget for any other language. School organizational arrangements require a careful balance between limited funding and community expectations of class sizes and specialist class options. Skilled external providers will continue to be engaged to promote discrete aspects of the performing arts program. The employment of a Library Technician, a Multi-media Technician and two part-time ICT technicians will continue to provide support for a broad-based technology and media program across the school.

Correspondence

Each year I provide an opportunity for parents to email or write to me regarding social and educational issues relating to their children which I would need to consider in the creation of class groups for 2015. Please email me on butler.glenn.d@edumail.vic.gov.au if you would like to raise relevant issues.Do not request certain teachers as this is beyond the purpose of the opportunity. Parents are also advised not to assume that teachers will be teaching the same year level in 2015. I routinely move teachers so they can have varied teaching responsibilties in order to continously build their professional capacities and experiences. The correspondence period starts now and closes on Friday, 21st of November.

Library News

Due to Scholastic Book Club changing the format for ordering books and I am relieving in the office whilst Brodie is away, there will be a delay with the delivery of the current Book Club. Please accept my apologies for this delay.

I will once again be holding a second hand book stall at the Twilight Market in November. Now is the time to clean out all those unwanted books and donate them to the school. The mone raised from this stall will enable me to buy display items for the library. Due to storage restrictions I am only able to accept books and cooking magazines. Please don’t send other types of magazines or encyclopedias.

Books and cooking magazines are to be delievered to the school library only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
