Finals Week - Hoop Time

4 Days. 6 Teams. 34 Games
That was a week of Basketball for our Hoop Time teams!
With 6 Teams, and the only school in Victoria, to have 1 team in every section of Grand a Final Day... Yeah, you read that right. 2500 schools in Victoria and we were the only school to have a team in every section of Hoop Time Finals!

Here’s a recap of the week:
Monday- Grade 3/4 Boys and Girls All Stars: Our teams walked out disappointed as the results didn’t go their way on the day, as both teams missed out on finals by percentage, but with a super talented group of boys and girls they now understand what it takes to perform on the big stage. They’ve already set their eyes on the prize for future years and will be working hard to reach that goal! They’ll be back! And look out when they are back!

Tuesday - Grade 5/6 Boys and Girls All Stars:
The Boys with 7 grade 5 students and 1 grade 6, showed the future is bright and to look out for next year as they fought every game with passion and tenacity! If the size of their bodies matched the size of their hearts they’d be unbeatable!
The Girls... well our girls showed they are in the Elite category of teams for their year level. A top 8 finish in the State (knocked out by the team who made the Grand Final) is something to be proud of! They were disappointed, as they had a goal of making the grand final but not all stories have the perfect ending. But they can hold their heads high and know that their legacy at Yarra Road will not be easily forgotten!

Wednesday - Take a breath...

Thursday - Grade 4 Future Stars
This team of boys and girls played some great basketball! Unfortunately results didn’t go their way and they missed out on finals, but held their heads high knowing they tried their hardest! A top 32 finish is fantastic!
Thanks to Drew for coaching on the day!

Friday - Grade 6 Future Stars
After getting a Wild Card entry into the tournament, they certainly showed they belonged putting on some great basketball and making the finals. Unfortunately they got knocked out in the round of 24, but should be proud of their efforts and being able to bounce back from some early tough games!
Thanks to David for coaching on the day!

All these games makes for one very tired, but proud PE teacher, who can’t ask for anything more than what the students in our teams show game in game out. You all amaze me!

And to our grade 6’s whose this was the last time we’ll see you in a Yarra Road uniform at Hoop Time, know that you have left the Yarra Road Basketball program in a better place than when you started, you’ve done us proud, and you will be missed!

Samuel Johnson Visits Yarra Road Primary

Thank you Samuel Johnson for visiting our School

What an extraordinary man Samuel Johnson is! We are so so grateful to have had him visit our School yesterday. His inspiration and determination moved us all as Samuel spoke to the children about his journey, Love Your Sister and most importantly his beautiful sister Connie and her battle with Breast Cancer. Samuel explained how important it is to keep promises to your family, as he continues to keep his promise to his sister, Connie. His achievements over the last 7 years have been remarkable and incredible and it doesn't look like he will be stopping anytime soon. He also spoke to our Parent Community afterwards out the front of the school. A good message Samuel put across is that it is ok to talk about it, and we should be especially with our Mums.

We will definitely be keeping an eye out for what Sam does next with Love Your Sister and if you would also like to please like his Facebook page linked on this page.

Thank you Samuel Johnson once again for visiting us

The school community raised over $3,000 for the Love Your Sister charity

Love your Sister Hearts are still available to be purchased at the school office $2.00

Together we can make it great!

Let’s BE THERE for each other by staying focused on what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. A kind gesture can MAKE THEIR DAY when we do things big and small to make them feel good. Good and bad things happen every day, but you can always CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE. We know learning is more fun when we throw ourselves into it, so lets PLAY!

YRPS School Values

Respect, Responsibility, Excellence, Confidence and Resilience.

Our Stars of the Week will be presented next Monday morning 2nd December at Assembly.

Around our Level

On Friday the 22nd of November we participated in our Run for Fun Colour explosion event.

It was so much fun and the Prep kids had a great time getting coloured.

We had a fantastic time running with our  year 5 buddies through the colour clouds and completing the challenges.

Year 1 & 2

Around our Level

For Integrated Studies, the children in Level 2 had to plan, create, build and make a robot using boxes and recycled materials. There certainly were some interesting and original designs. We have been learning about how robots help us in our everyday lives.

Last week we had an incursion ‘Bricks4kids’ for grade one. The children made robots using lego, batteries and had to follow the steps to make them move.

Last Friday the whole school celebrated the ‘Colour Run’, which was a fantastic afternoon.  The children ran a circuit of the school and ended on the oval with an icy pole. This was a great fundraising event for the school. A big thank you to Miss Franklin and the Parents Association and volunteers that made this event possible.

Year 3 & 4

Around our Level

Year 3 students have been learning Measurement in Maths lessons. Students have been measuring with various classroom objects.

Year 3 and 4 students were excited to participate in the Colour Explosion Run for Fun!

Year 4 students met their 2020 Prep buddies for the first time. There was much excitement and the students enjoyed being role models to the younger students.

This week students have participated in swimming lessons or swimming theory at school.
