Principal's Report

Welcome Back

I know that many of us can't believe that we are already half way through the year. It is amazing how time flies! We have had such a busy year with some great learning and there is so much more to come. Camps, excursions, swimming, parent nights, 3 way conferencesand much more! Remember to keep an eye on Compass for any events that may be upcoming and for any notices that will need consent signed.

Curriculum Day

We have a curriculum day on Friday 28th July.

No students at school on this day.

"Building Resilence in Children"
Guest Speaker Chris Daicos

I have invited Chris Daicos to our school on Monday 28th of August from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Chris is a fantastic interactive presenter who discusses and works with parents around strategies to help build resilience and alleviate the ever growing anxiety that our young children face.

The research informs us that a resilient child is one that is socially competent, can problem solve, and has the ability to see a difficulty as a problem that can be worked on, overcome, changed, endured, or resolved in some way;  has good self-esteem and autonomy which allows the child to cope successfully with challenges; and is hopeful and optimistic about what tomorrow has in store for them. Chris’ presentation provides practical strategies to assist parents to help their children develop these characteristics.

This highly interactive and engaging workshop will provide an overview of the recent research in the area of resilience. It will provide an opportunity to identify and learn about the positive factors that build resilience. It will enable parents to consider ways of increasing and maximizing the protective factors for children and adolescents.

As a trained social worker and teacher, Chris has extensive experience in working directly with children and adolescents and supporting staff.  Chris has facilitated many successful professional development sessions for teachers and parents within the private and public sectors on a range of topics from staff and student welfare to organisational health issues.  Chris is also actively involved in the tertiary sector, teaching students in Master of Social Work, Master of Teaching and the Master of Education (Student Wellbeing) courses.  Too see what people have said about Chris’ workshops; visit www.chrisdaicos.com.au

I will putting an invitation on Compass for parents to RSVP to. We will have babysitting available.

I strongly encourage you to attend this session and would like a member of each family to represent at the evening as it supports the development of our students at Upper Ferntree Gully.

3 Way Conferences

You will be able to book a session with your teacher for 3 Way Conferences beginning tomorrow.

This will be available through Compass.

3 Way Conferences are where we encourage your child to share their learning. The students will share with you what they are proud of, what they have achieved and what their next goals are. This is the opportunity to celebrate your child's learning with their teacher. It is also an opportunity to discuss any questions arising from reports.

It is important that we are all aware that learning is a journey for our students it doesn't matter their age or year level they all start at their own place and head in the direction that they are guided. We are looking at the growth of our students and how far they have come from where they started. Looking at our reports our students have come a long way. We want them to be able to share that journey with you.

It has taken a while however our commemorative pavers have been laid in our yard. They look fantastic so feel free come along and take a look at your paver. They are near the Senior Building.

Have a great week everyone.
