Principal's Report

Welcome back everyone!  I hope you enjoyed the break from school routine and were able to recharge the batteries, ready to launch into Term 4. We have another busy term ahead with an array of learning opportunities and experiences planned that includes our Fete, Solar Challenge, Physical Education Week, Years 3 /4 Camp, Prep -2 swimming, Year 6 Graduation celebrations, just to mention a few. All of this happens concurrently with the regular business of teaching and learning and professional development of staff. We are looking forward to the weeks ahead with great enthusiasm.

News Flash!

Thanks to the unbelievable organisational skills of Lewis’s mum Sharon from Foundation S, I can now announce that we have Mike Larkan from Channel 10 visiting our school to do his iconic weather report live on television on Thursday 24th October. This is a fabulous and unique opportunity made available to us by Sharon, which we are all extremely grateful for. Mike will be able to launch our Fete to the wider community which is an amazing prospect. More details will be available closer to the date.

Fete News!

With only 16 days to the Fete, we are now working hard to finalise certain aspects so that on the day everything is running smoothly and the whole day is a huge success both financially and enjoyment wise.

The discussion around the rebuilding of the ‘Haunted House’ has definitely been intense. From all accounts the previous ‘Haunted House’ in 2015 was an extremely unbelievable experience to visit from the planning so far, the experience is going to hit even higher levels this year.

But the Level 3 Team do need some assistance, so next Friday 18th October there will be a special casual dress day. Students are encouraged to wear casual clothes and in return bring along something that can be used in the decorating of the ‘Haunted House’.

Don't forget you can still bring in your books in good condition for us to sell at the Fete.

Fete Working Bee

To ensure that the school is looking it’s best on Fete Day we are having a ‘Working Bee’ on Saturday 19th October from 9.00am to 11.00am. This will give us the opportunity to give the grounds a good tidy up in preparation for all the visitors the following week. At the conclusion of the morning there will be the usual Sausage Sizzle provided.  Look out for the 'Working Bee' Event on Compass to register your attendance.

Fete Ride Wristbands

Unlimited ride wristbands are now available to pre-purchase by clicking on the TryBooking link  or by completing the attached form and returning it with the correct money to the office by Wednesday 23rd October.  These forms are also available from the office.

Fete Raffle Tickets

Thanking you for your support for the selling of the Raffle Tickets.  If you could please return your sold books with the money to the office as soon as possible.

To conclude, we are still in need of volunteers to sign up to help on the Fete Stalls.  When you are signing up you will be assisting the Stall Leader with selling/cleaning, etc.

Thank you

School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB)

Launch of the Syndal Stars Program

Hi, we are your Syndal Stars Ambassadors, Antony, Max, Olivia and Sean, and we are here to give you a brief overview of the program.

Next week we’re launching the Syndal Stars program as part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support. Every week, students across the whole school will have a special focus. There will be a lesson about the week’s focus in classrooms, and then all the teachers will be looking for students who are demonstrating the behaviour.

Teachers will be handing out tokens that students will collect at school (but not if they ask for one!) and there’ll be some fun prizes in the classroom. We’ll also be working towards a whole school reward that the students will be choosing.

It’s going to be lots of fun and make our school an even happier and enjoyable place to be!

Hats On

As the weather is slowly getting warmer and we see a rise in UV levels remember to slip on a hat, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a shirt, seek some shade, and slide on some sunnies!

From the first day of Term 4 hats are required to be worn when outside. Students without hats will be asked to sit in the shade at playtime for their own protection. Remember - NO HAT NO PLAY!

Terrific Kids Awards

Congratulations to our Term 3 Terrific Kids who were presented with their awards on the last day of Term.

Foundation - Hayden

Hayden radiates joy and care everywhere he goes! He always thinks of how he can approach challenges with a positive attitude and kindness. Hayden constantly tries his best, whether it be with his work, helping out a peer or being the best friend he can be.

Year 1 - Matthew

Matthew is a great example of the Syndal South school values. He is a caring, honest and respectful classmate who always brings a smile with him wherever he goes. He displays resilience in his learning by always persevering and never giving up. Matthews positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning is really admirable. Well done Matthew!

Year 2 - Isabella

Isabella displays the Syndal South values in all she does. Isabella is a caring and helpful student who is always willing to assist her peers. She takes time and care to complete all classroom tasks to the best of her ability. Isabella is a role model to other students with her kind nature and willingness to help.

Year 3 - Angie

What a delight it is to have Angie in the classroom! She has really opened herself up this term to new challenges, especially in Aerobics performing two routines at the Nationals competition with enthusiasm and maturity. She is respectful around the school, considers others before herself and is happy to help out when needed in the classroom. She is a responsible learner who always tries her best and I wish to congratulate her on this wonderful award. You're a super star Angie!

Year 4 - Saige

Saige is a friendly member of the class, who thinks of others before herself. She always asks if she can help her teacher and gives every learning task a go, trying her best at new concepts and challenging herself. Saige shows whole body listening skills and makes an effort to contribute to class conversations, including offering suggestions for possible success criteria. Her determination to try and just give things a go is a fantastic attribute and makes her a great role model to her peers. Saige shows respect by using manners and wishing her teacher a good snack, lunch and goodnight each day.

Grade 5 - Matthew

Matthew is a very curious and intelligent student who is always looking to challenge himself. Whether he is sitting in on extra group lessons, asking discerning questions or generally doing the right thing when nobody is watching, Matthew consistently displays the Syndal South values and deserves his recognition as a Terrific Kid!

Grade 6 - Antony

Antony is a friendly and caring student who always displays the SSPS school values. Antony participates in a wide range of school activities including aerobics, solar car and also has the important role of English Captain. He participates in everything with enthusiasm and is always dedicated to do the best he can with everything he tries.

As a learner, Antony should be admired for his resilience in all tasks. He is becoming more and more confident in his ability to work through challenges and succeed. Antony works hard at all times and uses feedback to help improve his skills. These are wonderful attributes to have as a lifelong learner. These are some of the reasons Antony is the Grade 6 Terrific Kid winner for term 3. Congratulations Antony for being a well-deserved recipient!

Pupil Free Day 4th November 2019

There is a register on the OSHC Parent Desk for you to register your intent to use the Program.  You will be notified 1 week in advance if the Program does not have enough children to proceed.

Signing Children In and Out

Parents must sign their children in and out of the program.  It is causing issues when we compare staff ratios to the number of children in attendance.

Evacuation Procedures took place on 3rd October 2019 during the September Holiday Program and 7th October 2019 at the After School Care Program.  The children responded in an appropriate manner which reinforces the fact that the procedures and expectations are now clear to all.

Footy Fever Hits SSPS

What a great way to finish last term with the annual SSPS Birthday breakfast. The teachers put on a scrumptious breakfast of cereal, French toast and sausages for a hungry lot of kids and parents. After a hasty pack up and strip out of the PJ’s and into our footy colours, it was then straight into the Grand Footy Parade hosted by our Sports Captain’s. Then it was a hot dog lunch followed by the Staff v Students footy match. Such community minded events are what makes Syndal South such a great school.

GO Syndal !

Mascot Challenge

SSPS has registered in the Mascot Challenge program. An initiative of the Australian Cricket Network, the challenge is a brain break program designed to be delivered in the classroom daily across a four week period. Suited perfectly for P-2 aged students to assist their development across fine motor skills, and begin their engagement in cricket.  The program has students spending 10 mins a day developing fundamental motor skills that will lay the foundation for them to lead a healthy and active life.

Kanonball Fun

Our Year 3/4 students practised their glove fielding skills during PE this week, with the Kanonball machine.

Ride2Work (School) Day

Next Wednesday is National Ride 2 Work Day, so if you ride your bike to school, you can join in some lunchtime riding activities just for fun. It ties in nicely with Walktober, where we are encouraging you all to walk to school if you can. It's all about being active & keeping healthy, by starting the day with a fresh mind.
