Principal's Report

Term 4

On Thursday 1st November, the whole school gathered at midday in the basketball stadium for 'Music Count Us In', a Australia's biggest school music initiative.  This year it was orchestrated out of Hobart, with more than half a million participants from over 3000 schools. Each year, a song is written specifically for the program. 'One Song' written by five talented students from around Australia, celebrates the joy of making music with others, uniting students across the country. Our children sang brilliantly and with enthusiasm, in two languages, English and Auslan (sign language).

Thank you Mrs Darling for managing 'Music Count Us In' at Valkstone!

Growth Mindset

Throughout 2018, as part of the Capabilities curriculum, we have focused on Critical and Creative Thinking in all subject areas as well as developing a growth mindset. Ms Borella has led the curriculum team as all staff  incorporate the language and strategies, based on the research of Carol Dweck in their daily programs. Several presentations at Monday assemblies have  provided consistent messages for our students. A community presentation earlier this year assisted parents in understanding our purpose.

A supportive online resource for parents, at a small cost,  is www.biglifejournal.com

Building Works

The refurbishment of the last set of classrooms is progressing on schedule. Expected completion date is 30th November.

This week, the temporary toilets are being disconnected Wednesday and removed on Thursday, enabling landscaping and reinstatement to proceed.

If your parents drive you to school you can still enter the competition by parking away from the school and walking to class. Every little bit counts!

The Japanese Word of the Fortnight

 どういたしまして

(pronounced ‘doh itashi mashite‘) which means ‘You’re welcome’, is the Japanese Word for Week 4 & 5. You can use ‘どういたしまして’

(‘doh itashi mashite) instead of ‘You’re welcome’ when someone says ‘ありがとう‘(pronunced ‘arigatoh’ which means ‘Thank you’)to you.

Thank you / ありがとうございますfor your continuing support for our Japanese program.                                     Muldeary Sensei & Steph Sensei
