Year 11 LaTrobe Excursion

Year 11 Latrobe University Excursion -14th Oct 2019

Dear students, parents/guardians and teachers of Year 11.
The second of the Year 11 University Experience days will be occurring on Monday 14th October at Latrobe University in Bundoora.
This is a compulsory event for all Year 11 students (excluding VCAL). All Year 11 classes will be cancelled for the day. VCAL students will be participating in an alternate activity on this day.
The day is aimed at providing students with an opportunity to explore pathways beyond school, receive information that will help them prepare for their choices regarding tertiary education, explore strategies and mechanisms to cope with the demands and stress of VCE and allow them to engage and connect with their peers.
Students are to meet at the green hard courts at 8.50am for a strict 9.05 departure by chartered bus. We will be returning back to school at approximately 2.50pm.
Students will be required to wear school uniform or PE uniform and bring a pen and notebook. Students may either bring their own lunch or purchase their lunch from the University Cafeteria or surrounding cafes.
The cost associated with this event is covered by the Essential Student Learning Items paid at the start of the school year, however students are encouraged to bring some money for lunch.
The day will include a tour of the university, a presentation from Latrobe staff and former KDC students, along with KDC staff-led workshops. A detailed outline of the day, including maps, will be provided closer to the day.
Any questions regarding this event should be directed to the relevant Houses, Mr Knights (Pathways Office) or Ms Hudson (Curriculum Office).

KDC Soccer:

The KDC Soccer School congratulates Aliah Segovia-Acevedo and Emel Fehmi on their selection in the School Sports Victoria State Soccer team. Both girls will head to Brisbane this Saturday to compete at the national championships in the under 18 division.

The girls have had very different journeys in their young careers, with Aliah joining our school and program in 2016 as a small and skillful year 7 student. She has grown as a player and a person in our program and always gives it her all when representing her school, and has a knack for creative dribbles and passing that provides her team mates with goal scoring opportunities.

Emel joined us in 2017 as a year 8 student, ironically after facing Aliah and our girls in Western Metropolitan finals for her previous school. Her desire to join our growing program saw her make the move to KDC and she has not looked back, providing leadership and tenacity on the field to match her technical skills.

Super proud as coaches to provide these girls with opportunities to showcase their talent, because after all, the game is all about the players.

Well done!

Scope Young Ambassadors Program:

The Scope Young Ambassadors Program was delivered to our Year 10 PRECAL students over the course of four weeks.

The program provided our students with skills to:

  • Understand disability and diversity in the community
  • Successfully communicate with people who have a disability
  • Be aware of some of the challenges faced by people with a disability
  • Encourage students to see the person, not the disability.

An interactive and hands-on learning experience was delivered by the facilitators and by the end of the program our students were better equipped to promote inclusive communities for people of all abilities.

Wednesday 7th August our students were part of a practical experience and had the opportunity to work alongside people with a disability and practice newly developed skills. They were part of a community service visit at Ice-house skating rink.

R U OK? Day:

Today we recognised R U OK? day which is a national day of action held annually to encourage and empower all people to regularly and meaningfully ask “are you OK?” to support those struggling in life. Whilst we should be asking the question every day of the year, R U OK? Day is a good reminder to keep a look out for those that may need some support.

The day began with R U OK? day themed breakfast club, followed by a staff morning tea, and then at lunchtime music performances by some of our talented students and free giveaways from the Well-being Team.

Thank you to all staff and students for getting involved in the day.
