A friendly reminder to book parent teacher interviews on Compass

Parents and carers are reminded to book an interview with their child's class teacher via Compass before 5pm tomorrow.

Next Wednesday there will also be evening time slots available.

Specialist teachers are available for parent/teacher interviews. Sometimes parents book a time slot to introduce themselves to the specialist teachers. The specialists enjoy getting to know parents however we ask that interview time slots are booked by parents who wish to discuss matters related to their child’s learning and progress as a priority.

Student mid year reports are available on Compass tomorrow from 5pm.

A date for the diary:

ResourceSmart School Certificate of Achievement

Congratulations to the Sustainability Team, comprising Ms McManus, Miss Cooper, Mrs Rothberg and Miss Burridge, our student Sustainability Team led by Emilia, Isabella, Tristan and Max, and  all  our wonderful students and staff for their contribution towards the school receiving a Certificate of Achievement for the  completion of the Water Module tasks and actions.

Beaumaris PS has now achieved the requirements for all five stars: Leadership/Core, Waste, Biodiversity, Energy and Water.

We will advise the community when we receive confirmation of full accreditation.

A fantastic team effort everyone!

What are the best things that happened to you today?

Who are you most grateful for and why?

What are you looking forward to most about tomorrow?

Sustainability

This week we would like to talk about our savings with the school and hopefully getting our fifth star. Last week we were visited by Sustainability Victoria to assess the completion of our Water module. The visit was successful and we were accredited our water module, the last component of the Resource Smart Journey.

Watch this space to see if we get our 5th star to complete the program.

This week we checked up on our resource smart page, and our results are stunning!! Here they are..

Overall we have saved $99,523 for our school, that’s $185 per student, annually!

Next month is waste free July, can you please make sure your child's lunchbox is waste free and if possible keep waste out of the house.

The Sustainability Team

Sustainability Tip

Keep chemicals out of your dishwasher and use environmentally friendly products and expect to see better results.

Snack Snack

Our NEW homestyle sausage rolls went on sale yesterday and we have received some wonderful feedback from students and staff. These will continue to be on sale each canteen day. To begin with there will be limited stock, so please order on Qkr! early to avoid disappointment. If anyone has any feedback about our menu items, please contact the school by email or email Ellie directly on [email protected].

More volunteers are still needed for Term 3. Please complete the form sent home with students last week (also sent via Compass) and return to the school by Monday 25th June. A roster will be circulated prior to the holidays by email.

Our soup on Monday was another huge success. Our last soup day for Term 2 will be on Monday 25th June. Chicken noodle soup for $1 per cup and anyone wishing to try our vegetable soup (completely vegetarian) can sample it at recess and lunchtime on the same day for 50c per cup. Our soups are made from scratch (stock included) onsite and from fresh healthy ingredients by our wonderful volunteers, Andrea, Jodie and Sonja.

Our ingredients lists for all menu items are available from the Snack Shack on canteen days and will be posted on the website by the end of term.

Thank you, Ellie H

Level Low Downs

Foundation

This week in Prep we have seen many examples of students displaying team work. During Investigations a group of children from a range of Prep classes worked together to create an obstacle course, using various building materials and 3D shapes. During Maths today our students collaborated in making 3D shape posters and presented their completed work to their peers. Well done everyone!

Year One

Year Ones had a Winter Celebration.   We drank hot chocolate, made snow globes and read books to our favourite toys.

Year Two

Year 2 walked to the Beaumaris Concourse and visited Bakers Delight, The Merchant and Steve’s Meating Place, to find out more about the food production process.  We sampled the goods (free fruit!), used our questioning and note taking skills and purchased food from our shopping lists. Back at school we made our own healthy sandwiches and enjoyed eating them in the sunshine! It was lovely for the children to interact with people in our local community and we are very grateful for the generosity of the proprietors.

Year Three and Four

The Year 3's have been working very hard on their ERP’s this week!  We can’t wait to exhibit our projects and answer questions about the learning process.

This week Year 4 have been working on a range of things including their Educational Research Projects on our subject focus, Geography.

We are seeing such detailed drafts with information on topics such as, Australia and its states, South America and Africa which has been the content focus throughout Term 2.  We have used a range of skills throughout this term including, researching, mapping, data analysing, writing and features of writing, reading and using technology

We look forward to seeing many of you at the Expo tomorrow.

The Year 3 exhibition will be on Thursday and the Year 4 exhibition is Friday.

Year Five

Next Tuesday morning we are wrapping up our Geography focus by celebrating at the expo.

This week we have been busy putting all the elements together. We had to enlarge an A4 map to A3 and include major cities, rivers and mountains. We have also been working on persuasive pieces to convince people why to visit our chosen countries.

Hope to see everyone next Tuesday at 9am

Year Six

This week some of the year 6 girls faced off against other Bayside schools in a tough and rough footy tournament. Two schools will go a step further and compete at a divisional level, facing other local districts like Kingston.  We hope the girls try their best and get through to divisional. GO BEAUY!

On the 21st of June, Year 6 will be presenting their Educational Research Projects in the SALC. They have been working on them for the past few weeks. The focus for this term is 20th century history. Project interests could be anything the students want, so long as it links back to history and the learning intentions.
