Principal's Report

Welcome Term 3

The new school term is well underway with all students fully engaged in their learning. The recent school reports and parent/teacher interviews highlighted the learning achievements of each student and enabled identification of individual learning goals for the new term. I wish everyone every enjoyment in their learning.

Completed Works

Over the school holidays a number of facilities projects were completed. These include:

  • Installation of additional lighting around the school to improve security and deter loitering and vandalism.
  • Rebuilding of the low retaining wall adjacent to the oval.
  • Removal of pigeon roosting points near the new junior playground.

Artist in Residence Project

The Artist in Residence – ‘Alice in Wonderland’ installation has been completed. Please be sure to go along to the Art Room entrance foyer to view this whole school creation. Be sure to look for the Ormond birthday cake with 125 candles.

School Security

A number of measures have been taken to better manage access to the school during school hours. Signs on the school gates direct all visitors to go via the Office using the Murray Road entrance. All visitors/parents must enter via the front office before heading to classrooms so that we can effectively monitor movements. While it may seem tedious, in the interest of consistency and community confidence, all visitors and classroom parent helpers must sign in. Parents who are at school to pick up their child before the end of the school day should inform the Office at the time that they sign their children out. Thank you for your assistance in this security matter.

Facebook Policy

Thank you to the many parents who either contacted me via email or attended this week’s parent forum to contribute their ideas on how to best manage social media communication relating to the school or class groups of parents. I have once again attached the discussion draft Facebook Policy which seeks to encapsulate the responsibilities, concerns and best practices required for the management of this emerging issue. Please follow the link to the draft policy. Alternatively, I encourage parents to email me their views and recommendations about the draft policy on [email protected]

Following on from the parent forum, a draft procedural guide is being developed to capture best confidentiality and online practices to manage school related social media. I will share these ideas as they develop.

Global Citizen Awards

In line with Council of International Schools accreditation journey, we have set ourselves the task of introducing a vibrant, relevant and contemporary values program. This will be a whole school focus allowing our students to emerge a “global citizens”. Our students are part of an emerging world community, they respect and value diversity, understand their responsibilities to each other and to the Earth itself. As an integral part of our learning we will be focussing on the following values:

  • Treating one another with consideration and courtesy
  • For self and others
  • For property and the environment

  • Displaying fairness in our words and actions
  • Accepting of other people’s beliefs
  • Accepting of other people’s differences
  • Accepting of other people’s perspectives

Quality Learning

  • Gaining knowledge and skills through educational experiences
  • Seeking knowledge through study and investigation
  • Displaying a positive attitude towards learning
  • Utilise critical and strategic thinking

  • Never give up
  • Remain committed to achieving our goals

  • Take pride in what we do
  • Strive to always do our best

Over the next two weeks teachers will be introducing the Global Citizen Awards to all students in their classrooms. Awards will then be announced in each fortnightly newsletter.

Bicycle Helmets

Some children have been seen riding scooters to and from school without adequate head protection. I remind everyone of our school Bicycles and Scooters Policy which highlights the need for all riders to wear a helmet. Please follow the link to the Bicycles and Scooters Policy.

Curriculum Day

Parents are reminded to plan for the upcoming Curriculum Day to be held on

Friday, 15th of July. This will be a Student Free Day.
