From the Principal

Dear Families,

Foundation Enrolment Forms for 2020 are now overdue

We request that all parents with Foundation/Prep enrolments for the 2020 school year submit enrolment forms in the coming days.  If you are aware of friends or family members wishing to enrol at St Andrew’s please advise them that enrolment forms need to be submitted to secure a placement.

Welcome back Mr Wakeling

Next week we welcome Mr Wakeling back after 4 weeks of adventures travelling. No doubt he will return relaxed and refreshed with many stories after enjoying days overseas in the sunshine.

My thanks to all the staff, students and families for your support during my time in the Acting Principal role.

A Date for your Dairy - Semester 1 Parent/Child/Teacher Interviews

We advise parents that Semester 1 Parent/Child/Teacher Interviews will take place on Monday 24th June (2.30pm-7.30pm) and Wednesday 26th June (3.45pm-6.30pm).

Online bookings are already open.

To see your child’s class teacher for the 15 minute interview please log onto  www.schoolinterviews.com.au   The login code is  292e3

Semester 1 Reports will be distributed on Friday 22nd June.

Optional Child School Attendance - Monday 24th June – 1.35pm-3.15pm

Teaching staff will be released on the afternoon of Monday 24th June to commence ‘Three Way Interviews’.   Students remaining at school for the afternoon block will be grouped in levels and supervised by staff not required at Interviews.  Parents attending interviews may collect their children from these level gatherings.

Parents do have the option of collecting their children for a shortened school day from 1.35pm.  Collection of students assists staff by reducing the number of children being present in the afternoon block.

Please inform your child’s class teacher in writing if you plan to collect your child from school at this early time.

Parents do not need to sign out from the school office on this day.  Your written notification will be a record of student early exits.

Eucharist Parent & Child Workshop - Tuesday 18th June - (6.00pm)

Parents and their child need to attend this First Eucharist preparation workshop evening on Tuesday 18th June.

It will be held in 5/6E and 5/6D classrooms and promptly begin at 6.00pm, concluding at  7.00pm.

The Sacrament of Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday 22nd June (6pm) and Sunday 23rd June (11am).

Eucharist Reminders

What to Wear?

As First Communion is a special day in the lives of the children, we invite them to wear their “Sunday best”. Traditionally, girls have worn a white dress and a veil or a little crown of flowers in their hair. Boys can wear smart pants and a shirt or a suit.  We leave the choice to you, the parents. Both boys and girls will wear their stole.

Official Photographs

  1. The photographs will be taken by Elite School Photography
  2. The parents/carers may order the photos by filling in the envelope (yet to be distributed) and returning it on the day of the sacrament with the correct payment
  3. Bring the envelope to the photographer at the beginning of the session
  4. All photographs are delivered to the school and will be distributed to students when ready

Staff Professional Learning

On Tuesday 11th June, Mrs Katherine Bedford led the staff in a review and update of the B.E.S.T principles at St Andrew’s School as well as our whole school approach to Positive Behaviour in classrooms and on the yard.

Mr Tony Hyde and Mrs Alej San Martin also led the staff through case studies of students with additional needs to support staff with identifying levels of adjustment for student support and evidence of adjustment.

We thank Katherine, Tony and Alej for leading the staff so capably and we thank the staff for their openness to developing their capacity as we work towards a whole school consistent approach to student support.

P.E.

Once again it is an exciting time for PE at St Andrew's. This Thursday we have our last winter inter-school sports round against St Peter's East Bentleigh.  After a great season it looks like we will have 5 teams in the finals which is our best result for many years.
During the week we have many events that take place on a weekly basis including Badminton,  AFL Club before school and Skipping.

Have a look at our new notice board in front of the PE hall.

We congratulate Charlotte T and Izabelle R for making Zone in Cross Country. It is a great effort for the hard work they put in.

At the start of Term 3 we will begin all of the training for the Bentleigh District Athletics Carnival.

P & F Reach and Connection

Lend a hand - Join our casual P & F email registry of helpers
We know we have such a rich and diverse community of parents and friends at St Andrew’s, and that not everyone will have the time and commitment to actively participate in our P&F Committee and attend our regular monthly meetings. Perhaps you only have a spare couple of hours every so often in a year, have a specific expertise, passionate about a specific cause/project, maybe you’re in between finding work and want to add a fundraising/community activity to your resume to boost your employability? If you want to lend a hand but without the long-term commitment, then we invite you to join our casual P&F email registry of helpers. How it works, email us your interest at parents.friends.standrews@gmail.com  We’ll add you to the email list and notify you of any upcoming opportunities to lend a hand. If one catches your fancy, simply respond back and let us know how you can assist.
