HALOGEN YOUNG LEADERS DAY

On Monday, I had the great pleasure of escorting our amazing 2019 school captains, Lochie, Alycia, Andrew and Issy to the Young Leaders Day, held at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

I am sure our young leaders had a fantastic day and were inspired by the four key note speakers, Cal Wilson (Comedian and author), Tim Diamond (Cotton On Foundation), Leisel Jones (Olympic swimmer) and Holly Ferling (cricketer).

Halogen Australia believes that leadership is about making a contribution. Like them, we, as a school, believe that all of our students can be leaders.

Leadership is about passion, never giving up, being inspirational, being positive and demonstrating perseverance and resilience.

All of the speakers had one common theme: giving things a go, working hard and remaining positive.

You don’t have to be the best to try to do your best, but sometimes it takes hard work.

I hope our school leaders will continue this year to inspire all of our students as they again demonstrated yesterday, respect for others, positive relationships with each other and responsibility.

SCHOOL COUNCIL 2019

The newly elected school council for 2019 met on Monday night to co-opt additional members (a community member and three parent members). Arbel Givargis was co-opted as a community member for two years and Amit Temurnikar, Adam Davis and Maria Georgeakopoulos were all co-opted to fill the one-year parent member vacancies. The school council then met to elect office bearers.

LEAVE

I will be on sick leave until the end of term and during my absence Chellee Plumb will be acting principal. I will still be in touch with school via phone and email, and I am sure the office will pass on any messages as required.

I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break and all the best for our Easter raffle.

HARMONY WEEK-
THIS WEEK!
17-21 March 2019

Everyone belongs:

Harmony and Cultural Diversity Week:

Did you know that this year is the 20th year of celebrating Harmony Day in Australia?

To all Murrumbeena P.S. parents,

Wednesday, 20 March is Harmony Day.

We would like all students to wear cultural clothes or the colour orange, as that is the harmonious colour (no need to purchase). You could even wear colours from the flag of your country.

We will be having a harmony day parade in the hall first thing on Wednesday morning, so that all students can showcase their costumes.

We are also looking for parent volunteers to come up at the assembly to tell us about their cultural background and history as well, as some information about your emigration.

By: Chester W. 6D

(Proofed by our new global citizenship captains: Misha S. and Jamie K.)

CANTEEN

Please note that due to the pre-ordered special lunch day today, this will be the only food available from the canteen.

REMINDER

Please be aware that school begins at 8.55a.m. and that children who arrive after this time will need to come via the office and accompanied by a parent to collect a late pass.

SAFETY CONCERN

Please be aware that the Hobart Rd. and Neerim Rd. corner can be quite dangerous to cross. Please speak to your children if they are walking to or from school via this corner, to remind them to cross safely.

MPS EASTER RAFFLE

The annual Easter Raffle is almost upon us again!.

Each child should have now received a raffle book of 10 tickets to sell. The books and money are due back to school on Tuesday 2  April.

Donated Easter eggs for the raffle are currently being accepted and can be dropped off in classrooms until Tuesday 2 April.

If you can donate any spare cane or wicker baskets or decorative boxes, they will be gratefully received to help us package up all of the prizes.

CONGRATULATIONS 1

On Sunday 17 March, Reuben C. (3A) shot at Diamond Valley Archers and came away as State Champion in his age division. He shot extremely well! He managed several perfect rounds, all in the gold circle and even scored a perfect 60 out of 60! His total score was 827 out of a possible 900.

Congratulations Reuben!

CONGRATULATIONS 2

Mr Phil Cook (Grade 5P) has been awarded the  Sir John Monash Active Monash Award.

'As the Clayton District Under 13 Cricket Coach and Team Manager, he has volunteered his time and experience to coach dozens of girls and boys.

"Seeing these kids enjoy a Saturday morning game of cricket with their friends is the most rewarding thing for me," Phil said.

He has been instrumental in promoting a passion for physical fitness, team camaraderie and discipline. Year after year, players have remained with the team, a testament to the high regard they have for their coach.

Phil's commitment goes well beyond what would normally be expected in a junior coaching role.

He often single-handedly takes on the responsibility of organising and running training sessions, maintaining player lists, ensuring snacks and drinks are organised, and even picks up any children whose parents are unable to get their child to the ground.

As a life member of the Club, former junior coordinator and Vice President, Phil is an integral part of the team and his impact on the lives of the children goes far beyond the sport.'

Well done indeed!!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE KITCHEN AND GARDEN

Last week was pizza week in the SAKG Kitchen.

Some of the produce used from the garden were potatoes, tomatoes, grapes, basil and rocket.

Pictured here is a delicious potato and rocket pizza made by 4M last week, using King Edward, purple sapphire and russet potatoes.

Have a good week!
