I pass on my sincere thanks to all members of the 2017 Governing Council for their great support and contribution last year. I would to particularly thank our 2017 Chairperson, Rob Lustri for his outstanding work in leading us and contributing on so many levels across the school, but in particular for his support and advocacy for our school with our school refurbishment projects.

With such a skilled and talented 2018 Governing Council group, that bring a rich range of expertise, I look forward to another year of continual learning, improvement and ongoing success in 2018.

The support and advocacy from Governing Council in supporting me to effectively lead the school, alongside our facilities work and excellence in learning and teaching will certainly enable Grange to achieve its target of moving from a good and great school to one that is consistently outstanding.

Starting High School

To Parents/Caregivers of Year 7 students,

We know that your child has just begun the school year and the last thing on your mind is enrolment in high school. Unfortunately this process begins early and we need to share some information with you to help you make the best decision for your child. Many of you have been through this process before but others have not.

By the end of this term, you will receive a package which will contain the ‘Starting Secondary School’ brochure, an enrolment form (ED176), and brochures prepared by your zoned government secondary school.

We recommend that you check your local Messenger Newspaper as well as our school newsletter for dates of public and private school open days/nights. (We have included information from some schools below. Others will be included as they become available). These events are a good way to gain an idea about the individual schools, have a look around and ask any questions that are specific to each site. It is the parent/caregivers responsibility to visit the high schools you are considering for your child.

The DECD website is also a useful tool for parents during this time. The website address is go to the links ‘Enrolment information’ (on the right hand side of the screen) and ‘Enrolling in High School’.

You may or may not be aware that DECD secondary schools are zoned and you may not be in the correct zone for the school you wish your child to attend. Your child’s zoned school of right will automatically appear on the ED176 enrolment form. Students with siblings currently attending a high school will have the right to attend that same school (regardless of zoning issues.) However Adelaide High, Urrbrae Agricultural High School, Mitcham Girls High and Roma Mitchell Secondary College (Girls Campus) do not have sibling rights. For these schools you need to follow their separate enrolment policies.

If you have changed address recently,  it is vitally important that you update your details with us so we can make the necessary changes online with DECD. If you think that we do not have your correct address, please contact the Front Office. If your details are incorrect, it is a DECD requirement that you  provide proof of residency in the form of a utilities bill (Gas or Electricity) or a Bill of Sale or Rental agreement.

Anybody considering enrolment in Special Interest Schools for 2019 will need to either contact the specific secondary school direct or check their website to obtain further information about the program and an application form. All school web addresses are listed on the DECD website or simply “google” the required school.  Please be aware that the application process and due dates vary from school to school. These applications are due well before the general secondary enrolment process and application forms must be returned to the school of choice by the date listed on the application form.

There are two single sex secondary schools for girls in the metropolitan area – Roma Mitchell Secondary College (Girls Campus) and Mitcham Girls High School. Neither of these two schools have district boundaries. Parents can obtain further information about enrolment from each of the schools.

Should you require any information at all regarding enrolment into secondary school,  do not hesitate to contact either myself or Merrill Battista on 8353 2688.

Thank you and good luck,

Alex Narcys.

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle in Room 5

In Room 5 we have been learning about how to reduce, reuse and recycle to create a cleaner environment. We  brainstormed ways that we could see less waste in our school. As a class we talked about how the wrappers in our lunch box are creating a lot of unnecessary litter which is not only effecting our school but also the wider community. We then did a STEM challenge where the students had to make a lunchbox out of recyclable materials to model what a reusable container could look like instead of using wrappers. One student made a biscuit container and even brought it in her lunchbox the next day to use instead of using a plastic bag. Our goal as a class is to reduce the amount of waste we are bringing to school by using reusable containers and aiming to not have any wrappers in our lunch boxes. If you would like to find out more you can come and speak to Miss Simpson.

Author Visit

On Thursday 22nd February, our year 3 students welcomed award winning author Stuart Reid to our school and  what an amazing event it was! Students were thoroughly engaged during the Reading Assembly and Writers Workshops - we can’t wait to start writing our own exciting stories using Stuart’s expert advice!  Stuart returned on Monday 26th February for a book sale and signing. We have included some photos from the sessions below.

Family Movie Night

On the evening of Friday 23rd February, Grange Primary School held a Family Movie Night to welcome new families and celebrate the new school year. What an amazing turnout!  We could not have asked for better weather conditions with close to 500 people attending and supporting our first fundraiser for 2018.

The evening started at 6:30pm with families arriving armed with picnic rugs and chairs to find themselves the perfect spot to sit and watch the movie ‘Despicable Me 3’.  The inflatable screen and movie was supplied by Adelaide Outdoor Cinemas.

We had 3 inflatable activities: a bouncy castle, a slide and an obstacle course which were supplied by Jump Easy Inflatables, a barbeque dinner, popcorn & drinks. Although we had a minor hiccup with the popcorn machine, once it was up and running it was a very popular item.

Our Student Leaders Hannah, Mila, Jade & Danija worked very hard on the night selling popcorn, blankets and raffle tickets to the crowd .  Great job girls!

Our raffle winners were:

  1. Jenna Gates who won the wine pack which was generously donated by Brett & Angela Harvey from Ghost Wines.
  2. Leonardo Giglio who won the kids pack consisting of board games & stationery.

Our event raised $4180.00.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank:

  • Jarrah Carr – Jump Easy Inflatables & Popcorn Machine
  • Jump Easy staff who assisted at the inflatables
  • Brett & Angela Harvey – Ghost Wines
  • Student Leaders – Hannah M, Mila S, Jade G & Danija C
  • Shane Bewry & Ted Mills – our BBQ chefs for the evening
  • John Mastropaolo & Lia De Giglio

The feedback on the night and since then has been nothing but positive and we thank you all for your support.
