Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

This week we celebrated the Walk to School Initiative", which is sponsored by the Darebin Council. The initiative advocates the well being benefits of students exercising regularly, in particular the benefits provided by walking to school.  All week Jodi has been looking out for our students and families who use the crossing appropriately. On Wednesday, all our students participated in a walkathon promoting walking as a fun form of exercise. The council provided some delicious fresh fruit for the occasion for our students to re-energise after their walking.

Our school's environment group have introduced a campaign this past week, encouraging all students and families to collect their plastic bottle tops and bring them to school. The bottle tops are being collected to help the organisation "Envision Hands", who turn recycled bottle tops into prosthetics for children who have a hand missing. Congratulations to Huy and Emily on organising this great initiative. They ask for your kind support in sending your plastic bottle tops into our school.

A reminder next week that there is no school for our students on Monday as the teachers will be writing reports and on Tuesday due to the Melbourne Cup public holiday.

Due to next week being a short week, there will be no newsletter. The newsletter the following week will be the final one to go out to all families as a hard copy. On week seven as previously publicised, the newsletter will be emailed to all families so it can be read online and a hard copy made available only to those families who have requested one.

Just sometimes, it's better not to know what is happening. All i know is that Marty was seen inside the dump master muttering something about 20cent ice cream cones at McDonalds!

Yours sincerely

Mark Tierney

Walk To School Month

What a great day we had on Tuesday 29th October! We had our lapathon and enjoyed delicious fresh fruit from the City of Darebin. Jodie (our crossing supervisor) decorated the gate with purple ribbon and students had fun creating  chalk drawings on our footpath. Congratulations to all the students who participated and there were prizes for students from each grade who ran/walked the most laps.

Songs From the Heart CD Launch
21st November

Very soon the launch of the School CD will be here.

The students, Kate and Marty have been working very hard to capture the beautiful sounds of the children on the CD. Along the way we have been taking photos and videoing interviews and song recordings to share with you on the night of the CD Launch. To do this, we encourage you to download the app 'Artivive'.

Artivive is an augmented reality art tool. It allows the audience to interact with the art, by connecting them to the digital layer of the art piece. You will be able to point you mobile or tablet at a photo, which will then come alive with videos of students singing, practising or talking about the experience of recording the CD.

Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store download the app.

Over the next few weeks, watch out for the posters on how to download the app, as well as an example of how Artivive works.

 P - 2 Village News

Term 3 was a very busy term in which the P-2’s learnt lots about how to use their wonderful and wacky imaginations. Last Tuesday,  the students displayed what they had learnt about fairytales, puppetry and drama, to their peers, teachers, families and friends.

It was great to see the students enjoying themselves while performing for an audience.

We would like thank all those who came to support the students and enjoy the spectacular performances.
