Premiers Reading Challenge.

KDC Library

The Victorian Premiers’ reading challenge is well under way at KDC Library. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for life. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read, to read more and read more widely. The library has lots of Premiers Reading Challenge books marked with a star, either displayed or on the bookshelves.
So far, in May 2018, we have 797 students that have registered. 12 students have completed the 15 books required and 3 students have reached the limit of 100 books read in one account. The Challenge ends at the end of August just after our Book Week celebration. We will then prepare for our awards ceremony to acknowledge student achievements with Certificates and Trophies in October. This year’s special guest is Isobelle Carmody.
The following books (pictured) are Premiers Reading Challenge star books and short listed for the Children’s Book Council of Victoria - Book of the Year.
These books and more. are displayed in the Library,  be quick to borrow!

Annual Winter Concert.

Winter Concert

On 31st May, KDC had our Winter Concert, which showcased 140 students from our Instrumental and classroom Music Program. The evening featured our wonderful Choir, Stage Band and Year 8 classroom Big Band. Year 10 Class Band, Saxophone Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Marching Drummers, Beginner Brass and Woodwind Ensemble and much more. It was wonderful to see how much our students have learnt on their instruments over the year. An entertaining night was had by all.

Thank you to all parents, staff and students who supported our growing music program by attending the event.

Year 11 VCAL

Year 11 VCAL

Year 11 VCAL Working Related Skills, working with Brimbank Council on conservation of the area behind KDC. Great day of planting new trees, learning about plant species and removing the plastic tree guards from established trees.

REX - Therapy Dog.

REX - KDC Therapy Dog

KDC we are trying a new idea of having a dog at school on occasions to help in Well being and Integration. There is research that shows that having animals in schools, helps to make students feel less anxious and makes it easier for them to talk and express their feelings.

Rex is a small brown poodle, who belongs to Emma Ford, our MIPS Officer. Rex is very gentle and bright, is non-allergenic and likes people. When Rex is "on duty" he will be wearing his blue KDC coat. He has an official timetable but will not be coming into general classes. We are trialing having Rex at school for a few days over the next couple of weeks.
