Acting Principal's Report

Acting Principal's Report

Looking at the calendar, we are already three-quarters of the way through the year. It is the last week of Term 3 and the term break is just round the corner!

I am taking this opportunity to thank our parents, school council members, students and staff members for the trust and support through this school term providing the opportunity for me to take on this acting principal role readily and to continue implementing the School’s goals in student learning and wellbeing, and teaching and learning of staff members.

Teachers and therapists are unpacking the Movement learning area of the ABLES tool. The mobility, accessibility using supporting aides and the muscle tone and strength building have a significant impact on the physical wellbeing of our Belmore students. From discussing and defining the statements of the student’s performance in the ABLES tool, Belmore staff are documenting the decisions and guidelines which can support and further validate the process. This process will provide a more consistent and accountable date collection which reflect our students’ performance.

We have four students graduating at the end of this year. Currently we have 4 fulltime students and 1 part time (0.4) student enrolled for 2019.

One student will be starting in Term 4 2018.

Official Opening of Belmore School Hydrotherapy Pool

Friday 21st September, there will be an official opening of our refurbished Belmore School Hydrotherapy Pool. There will be the usual end of term three whole school assembly, then students and all dignitaries, including Andrew Tait, Jo Rush, Kia Sandler and Jane Nathan from Hawthorn Community Chest, Flourish ladies, Maria and Josh from Josh Frydenberg’s office, Paul and Rodney of Paul's Pools Company and our School Councillors, will be at the entrance of the pool, having a ribbon-cutting ceremony. There will be light refreshment afterwards to celebrate this event and time to personally thank all our sponsors on this amazing project which benefit our school community.

Thank you

I am taking this opportunity to thank our parents, school council members, students and staff members for the trust and support through this school term providing the opportunity for me to take on this acting principal role readily and to continue implementing the School’s goals in student learning and wellbeing, and teaching and learning of staff members.

May the beauty of the holidays warm your spirit.

Wish you all a safe and wonderful break.

Engagement and Wellbeing

Belong Enterprises

We had the privilege to meet Anita Smith who is the director and owner of Belong Enterprises.  Belong Enterprises is a company that offers school holidays programs for students with special needs.  Anita is the parent of a teenager with Cerebral Palsy and a mild intellectually disability and therefore understands how important friendships and social opportunities are for all children with special needs.  Belmore School and Anita will collaborate and offer an information session in term 4 to talk about summer school holidays program for Belmore Students.   If you would like more information please feel free to call Anita on 03 9846 5459 or contact via email

Farewell and Recruitment

At the end of this term we farewell our Occupational Therapist Candice Bruns who accepted other employment opportunity.  On behalf of the school management, I would like thank Candice for her commitment and work that she provided to both primary and secondary students.  We wish Candice all the very best on her new role and future endeavours.

Recruitment is currently underway and we are conducting interviews tomorrow Friday to fill in few vacant positions.  Pending on the recruitment’s outcome, I look forward to introducing our new members of the therapy team next term.

Mind Matters

Recently I attended Mind Matters forum.  Mind Matters is an initiative funded by Department of Education to be implemented at all government schools.  Mind Matters is a mental health initiative that aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people.  It is a framework that provides structure, guidance and professional learning to all school staff to support the overall wellbeing of all students.   Next term, I will offer an in-house PD session to our staff and share the information and key messages that I learn at that forum.

I am pleased to inform you that Belmore School welcomes two new volunteers.  James Chan, a university student studying commerce started two weeks ago and is supporting our students every Friday.  James is a past volunteer, some 4 years ago, who felt he would like to return to Belmore School and offer his generous time and support.   Puteri Abdul-Razak, who is currently completing a certificate IV in Education Support course, will commence her volunteering work in term 4.

Enjoy the term break

Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy school holidays and I look forward to seeing all students back at the school refreshed and rested on Monday 8th of October.

Thank you…

Primary Foot Spa Sensory Program

As part of the Primary Integrated Curriculum on a Friday afternoon these students have been participating in a footspa sensory program: Livian, Ruby, Marcus and Sebastian. The students enjoy this session. We talk about things like the water, the temperature, making bubbles, and how it feels on their feet. The students also help with taking off and putting on their shoes and socks.

Visual Arts News

ArtAbility Exhibition

I would like to congratulate four secondary students on their fantastic creative entries for the ArtAbility exhibition, opening at Preston Town Hall on Friday 12th October. Angela has entered three self-portrait photographs exploring her own journey, symbolising her abilities and hopes for the future. Jackson has entered a coloured pencil drawing. This surreal composition combines elements from different visual sources in an interesting way. Maggie has created three artworks for the show, inspired by

Vincent Van Gogh’s famous ‘Sunflowers’. Cooper has shown his skill and interest towards photography and is exhibiting three inspiring photographs, taken around Belmore School. These four students have creatively explored new perspectives and it is an exciting opportunity to exhibit in the community.

Thank you to Fiona for her support and for those interested in visiting the show, including tickets for the opening night go to:
