From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

National Assessment Program, Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has provided the message below for all schools to communicate to their communities regarding difficulties across Australia with online NAPLAN testing.

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you are aware, NAPLAN testing has now begun, which our school is doing online. Unfortunately, some connectivity issues were experienced during the test and these issues are currently being investigated.

While this isn’t ideal, please be assured we have procedures to follow to minimise any impacts on our students, including rescheduling the test if required.

National test authorities have advised they regret any inconvenience this has caused to schools and students, and are working to rectify the issue as soon as possible.

Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)

Here at Grange we have invested in providing strong technology infrastructure and internet speed and these difficulties are not school based or in our control as a school. You will remember the recent National online census where something similar happened.

Our students and teachers in Years 5 and 7 that were challenged with the test connection dropping out on Tuesday 14th May, displayed resilience and persistence, admirable skills and ones I congratulate them on. We all face challenges and blocks when things may not go as expected and it is our response to these that develops strong character traits in managing change and challenges, so important in the rapidly changing world of today.

Here at Grange our vision of “Learning today for tomorrow” is something that forms the fundamental foundation of all we do in best supporting your child in their learning, engagement and wellbeing. All NAPLAN online testing after Tuesday 14th May have had no issues and proceeded without any connectivity issues.

Please let me know if I can provide any further information about NAPLAN or you can see the ACARA website at

https://www.acara.edu.au/

Regards, Grant

School Activities

Airport/Western District Athletics Day

Friday 10th May I had the pleasure in taking our Grange athletics team to compete in the Airport/Western District Athletics Day held at Henley Memorial Oval.  With a team of 33 athletes we were nominated to compete in the large school competition. Having a forecast of possible hail and thunderstorms, we were extremely lucky not to be hit with any major downfalls during the day.

Our athletes competed against some of the best from other local schools where the competition was fierce. Most of our students placed in their events with many winning them outright. The last event of the day were the relays where Grange was very successful placing in every age group. To finish off a well organised and fantastic day Grange won the overall day taking home the large school cup for the fourth year in a row.

From the results of district day we have 20 students nominated to represent their event in the up coming State Athletics Competition being held at Santos Stadium next week. A big thank you needs to be said for all the helpers that came along to support the team on the day. Overall it was a great day with many highlights for our students. I personally wish all the best to those who are competing in the State Athletics Competition.

HATS AND BAGS

We previously advised that Hats and Bags would still be available from school via the Front Office or the Qkr App. However, it has been reported to us by our uniform supplier that many people have asked about having hats and bags on sale along with the clothing items. Therefore, starting immediately, hats and bags will only be available to purchase from Westside School Uniforms, either at the Westside shop or via their website.

Prices will be as follows:

Medium Bags with logo                $40.00

Large Bags with logo                      $42.00

Hats  plain no logo                          $10.00

It has come to our attention also that people are having difficultly locating Westside Uniform shop. The majority of the shops in the block face Grange Road, however Westside are situated around the corner in Falkirk Avenue. Should you have any difficulties finding the shop please call Amanda at Westside on 0450 224 887.
