Harmony Day -
Colour Explosion Run

Harmony Day 2020

Colour Explosion Run

From today, we commence our participation in the School Colour Explosion™ Run initiative. We ask for your support for this as our major fundraiser for this year. The more money we raise the more we can provide for the students through vital school projects, in particular major upgrades to our playground facilities.

The School Colour Explosion™ Run will be held on Friday 6th March starting at 1:30pm and will form part of our Harmony Day celebrations. We ask that children wear casual clothes on this day, most importantly a plain white t-shirt as the students will be covered in powder from head to toe. The day’s focus is on diversity, inclusion and fun with the added benefit of raising funds for our school.

HOW DOES MY CHILD FUNDRAISE? Students have now received a Sponsorship Form with instructions on how to raise money and order prizes. Students obtain donations in cash using the Sponsorship Form together with online fundraising.

Students who raise as little as $10 or more will receive an incentive prize for their efforts. But why not aim higher? You have the option to choose up to five (5) prizes and this will set your fundraising goal. Family and friends are your greatest supporters, so ask them first for your support. You will reach your fundraising goal in no time.

STUDENT PROFILE PAGE:

Create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au which is unique to you. There are also some great features like creating your own avatar, selecting your prize goal and recording your sponsorships.

You can also register for online fundraising. It’s the easiest way to help your child raise money and to reach your fundraising goal sooner. You can share your fundraising page to family and friends through Facebook, Twitter, email and even text message with a few simple clicks.

WIN A DREAM HOLIDAY WORTH $10,000!

For your chance to win a $10,000 Flight Centre Gift Voucher, create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au and for every $10 raised you will receive one entry into the draw to win. The more you raise the more chances to win.

WIN A CRUISE OF YOUR CHOICE! The highest fundraising student in our school will go into the draw to win a $5,000 cruise of your choice. To enter, you must create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au and you can view your ranking on our school’s leaderboard.

COLOUR POWDER: The colour powder used in our event has been sourced direct from India, the home of Holi Powder. It is made of high quality corn starch and permitted food colours. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, skin safe and environmentally friendly. Toxicological Risk Assessment and ingredient listings can be obtained from the School Office upon request. Students with asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate.

HOW TO ORDER PRIZES? To reward your child for their efforts, they will receive incentive prizes based on the total amount of sponsorship dollars raised in cash and online. You have two options to place your prize order:

1. Login to your Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au. Once the fundraiser has finished, click the ‘ORDER MY PRIZE’ button via the dashboard, OR

2. Complete the back page of the Sponsorship Form and return to the school for processing.

Please note, all donations need to be finalised on or before Friday 6th March and student prizes will be delivered shortly after.

Thank you in advance for your participation, and get ready for a BLAST OF COLOUR! Happy fundraising!

Our children were also most enthusiastic participants in the sessions as offered to children in Years 1 to 6.  We’d strongly encourage parents to have meal time discussions based on what your children learnt from their session.

Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) Year 5 & 6 Survey

Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne aim for continuous school improvement. An essential element of this improvement is understanding how students perceive the Catholic identity of our school and what they might like Catholic identity at St Andrew’s School to look like in the years ahead.

Students have an important voice in our planning and so we invite all students in Years Five and Six to participate in the Enhancing Catholic School Identity survey.

Student responses to the survey will assist us in better understanding how our Catholic Identity is expressed. The results will contribute to a reliable picture of our school’s Catholic Identity, which we will use to inform our school improvement for the next four years.

In the weeks ahead, each student in Years Five and Six will be asked to complete an online survey, access to which is only available through individual user codes and passwords. At no time will students be named or identified in the survey; their responses are guaranteed to be anonymous.

I look forward to the contribution that our students’ responses will make to improving our school.

Please contact me through my email address, principal@saclaytonsth.catholic.edu.au if you do not wish your child to participate in the ECSI survey.

Years 3-6 Philippines Presentation - Monday 17th February (2.25pm-3.15pm)

Our Year 3-6 children will be involved in a presentation on the journey to be undertaken by Mr Mills and Mr Edwards, along with the background to our partnership with the Kadasig Aid team next Monday afternoon.

We warmly invite any interested parents to join us for this presentation in the School Hall on Monday 17th February at 2.25pm.

Philippines/Maghanoy School Program

St Andrew’s Social Justice Focus
Paddy Edwards and
Callum Mills Abroad
21st February - 6th March

Kadasig Aid and Development is a voluntary group based in Australia working to improve the lives of children and families through livelihood programs.

The Philippines Journey

Our involvement in this program centres around a 14 day trip to the Philippines in which we will be visiting our new sponsor school (Maghanoy School) - an initiative undertaken half way through 2019.

In late December, the school shipped off 3 very full balikbayan boxes of stationery which is due to arrive very soon. Our responsibility is to assist our sponsor school with materials they will need to run a successful education program for their community.

We will be travelling with 6 other Australians who are also involved sponsoring and developing areas of the community. This includes other schools, boys/girls refugees and community organisations founded by the Kadasig group. It is sure to be a challenging and rewarding experience and we look forward to sharing with you upon our return.

What you can do?

We are truly appreciative of your donations that we received in 2019. Prior to our departure on February 21st we are asking for money donations which will allow us to purchase the necessary goods upon our arrival in the Philippines such as sporting equipment, food, toiletries and other essential items. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. These donations can be made through your classroom teacher or at the front office.

Thank you and God bless.

Paddy Edwards & Callum Mills

Year 6 Hoodies Presentations -
Friday 28th February (3pm)

Each year in Term 1 our Year 6 students are handed their Year 6 level hoodies which they take great pride in wearing throughout the year, even on days of extreme heat!

Commencing this year we aim to make the handing over of these Hoodies a very special moment for our Year 6 children.  We therefore welcome all family members to join the school at 3pm on Friday 28th February for the handing over of the year 6 hoodies.  This event will take place in front of the school administration area, the same setting that at the final hour of the year we farewell our Year 6 graduates.  Join us for a bit of fun and what will hopefully be a special moment for our senior students.
We thank Laura LaRosa for her work in coordinating the purchase and distribution of the hoodies.   Given that this is Laura’s last year with children at St Andrew’s she will be handing over the task for 2021.  We thank Laura for her long term role with this project which our children so greatly appreciate.

Student Personal Information Exchange Proforma

A ‘Student Personal Information Exchange Proforma’ has been sent home with every student in Year 1 to 6.  This proforma aims to provide classroom teachers with further insight into the development of your child/ren.  We ask that each child’s proforma is returned tomorrow, Friday 14th February.

Foundation C

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn ”
Greetings from Foundation Corio.  I would personally like to welcome all the students and their families to this vibrant, welcoming and faith filled school.  For many of you, this is the first time at St. Andrew’s for others you have already experienced the excitement and warmth this school has to offer.
Throughout Term One, the focus is on the establishment of school/classroom routines. This allows the students to settle in with confidence and this is imperative in forming a strong “foundation” for the rest of the school year and beyond.
So far, the students have enjoyed the many and varied activities which they have been a part of. They are slowly orientating themselves to their new school, class friends and other teachers.
Over the last two weeks, the students have participated in the Specialists Program, a library lesson, their first school Mass and Assembly and of course daily learning within the classroom setting. Each day the students appear even more settled and ready for learning. They enjoy being read to and are learning some phonic and action songs.
My door is always opened, please feel free to come, say hello and see some of your children’s great work.
Wishing all students and their families a terrific year, enjoy this new phase within your lives and know that you are truly valued as a member of the St. Andrew’s school family.

Kind regards,
Mr. Rosario Corio - Foundation C Teacher
