Scott, Harvey, Lola and Jade are the 2018 Media Captains at Beaumaris Primary School.
Every second Thursday they host a radio program on 88.3 Southern FM from 8:00am until 9:00am. Their next program is on Thursday 30th August.
From Scott, Harvey, Lola and Jade:
We talk about what’s going on at school and play music as well.
We would love for more of the school community to tune in so we have decided to make one of our radio topics about a different year level every fortnight, starting with prep, then moving up through the year levels.
We will also put a reminder over the school speaker on Wednesday afternoon to remind you all about tuning in to 88.3 FM.
THAT’S A WRAP!
So BPS community, let's support our radio stars and tune in every second Thursday.
We value your input!
On Monday 23rd July, randomly selected families were sent an email via Compass, inviting them to complete the Parent Opinion Survey online. Thank you to the parents who have already responded. The survey closes this weekend. Your feedback helps us to continue to strengthen our school.
Following the Footy Day Assembly and Footy Coin Drive , some parents may wish to stay a little longer to watch the Annual Teacher vs Student Footy Match.
What are three things that went well for you today?
What are the best things that happened to you today?
Who are you most grateful for and why?
What are you looking forward to most about tomorrow?

BFAC (Beaumaris Father's Activity Club) have announced the Drive-In Movie will take place on the last day of this term - Friday 21st September. The movie will be announced very soon and tickets will be available through Trybooking.
For those of you who are new to BPS in 2018, the Drive-in movie takes place on the school oval; families can drive their car onto the oval and watch the movie from the comfort of the car, or alternatively a walk-in ticket gives access to a reserved area in front of the screen where families can set up with blankets and bean bags. Every year the car spaces sell very quickly, as we can only fit 70 cars on the oval. Gates open at 6pm and the movie starts at 7pm.
Location: Under the green shadecloth
The morning will conclude with our teachers vs students footy match.
School Council has approved the funds raised at the Father's Day Breakfast and Father's Day Stall will be allocated to the purchase of robotics equipment for our students to use during Science and Technology.
Next Friday is Footy Day!
Come along in your favourite AFL, NRL, A-League or any other footy team's colours. Bring along a gold coin donation to raise money for State School Relief and our World Vision child, Fikrey. The JSC representatives are already getting into the spirit of things.
Over the next two weeks the JSC will be selling Legacy badges, pens, teddies, wrist bands and tattoos from the office. We have $2, $5 and $10 badges and even $15 teddies dressed in various outfits. Each day during the beginning of lunchtime, the JSC representatives invite students to the office to purchase some items from the Legacy Foundation.
Qkr! Sushi Lunch Monday was a huge success. Chicken noodle soup will be provided for the next two Mondays at recess and lunch for $1 per cup - last day will be Monday 3rd September. Dim Sims will finish at the end of this week. Frozen fruit is no longer available however fresh fruit cups will be back in Term 4. Any feedback is always welcome so please if you have some suggestions or comments, send them through to [email protected] and we will respond as soon as possible.
In Prep we have been learning to share our opinions, likes and dislikes about stories during English lessons. Yesterday, we read the very popular story "The Day the Crayons Came Home" by Oliver Jeffers. We wrote what we liked and disliked about the story and gave reasons as to why we felt that way.
The Year 1 students had a wonderful time celebrating ‘All Things Books’ last week. We discussed and learnt about different authors and illustrators as well as dressed up as a favourite book character.
SCIENCE ROTATIONS
On Wednesdays the Year 2 children have been working through their Earth and Space Science rotations to help them understand the basic concepts and develop skills of inquiry. The weekly activities have focused on Weather, Earth, Moon and Sun.
BOOK WEEK
We thoroughly enjoyed getting together with the whole school to celebrate Book Week. The book character parade at assembly on Thursday was a highlight and we thank the parents for supporting us. The dress ups and costumes were amazing!
This week Year 3 & 4 investigated some Science concepts during our learning rotations together. It was a brilliant opportunity for students to work with students from other classes across the two year level cohorts. Students enjoyed a full range of hands-on learning activities on the topic ‘Forces’ which included momentum; push and pull; friction and gravity.
We have once again had a busy week in Year 5.
We started the week by revisiting the names of angles and their matching degrees. We soon moved on to estimating and using a protractor to measure and draw our own angles. We even got creative with a table and masking tape. We taped up a table in any pattern we wanted and then we had to use the protractors to measure the angles we had created.
This week we linked our science and writing together. We have been conducting experiments and then focusing on writing very detailed scientific reports to analyse our data. We have been preparing our reports in anticipation for our big experiment day tomorrow.
From our media captains.......
On Wednesday 15th of August the T-ball girls' team went to play the regional final. The team is made up of Year 6s and Year 5s. They had a win and a loss, which means they will not progress any further this year. Well done on a great year! Also, last Wednesday the Year 6s provided the sweet and tasty treats for the after-school bake sale. We sold everything from cookies to big cakes. All the profits go to Water Aid as part of our Build-a-Loo sustainability project. Water Aid is a not-for-profit foundation which is aiming to achieve good sanitation, hygiene and water around the whole world. Our Lion King rehearsals are in full swing. The musical is starting to come together and look like a proper production.
As you know our big fundraiser for this year is our Greatest Showman/Circus themed parent social night on Sat 27th Oct at Sandy by the Bay. Please save the date if you haven't already. Funds raised will go towards ongoing improvements to the playground spaces. We have a fabulous team already volunteering but do need some more help. So if you would like to volunteer for any of the below please let me know.
We have two school families who are currently sponsoring us (thank you LAMI & BC Dental) with a few more coming on board soon. However we would LOVE as many sponsors as possible. Sponsorship starts from $250 so let me know if this interests you and I can send you a sponsorship document.
We need lots of donations for our online auction so if you can donate anything it will be gratefully received. We are also making up hampers so if you have any new but unwanted pressies hiding in your cupboards please drop them off to the office.
Finally if you have any contacts for donations please get in touch.
Many thanks
Ness Newell & The Fundraising Team

Appointments with teachers must be made via the school email: [email protected]
ABSENCES
Student absences should be reported to the school before 9.00am via the Compass portal or phoning the school office. Any unexplained absences will result in parents/guardians receiving an email at 9.30am on the day of non-attendance requesting they update Compass with the reason for non-attendance.
LATE ARRIVAL OR EARLY LEAVE
In order to minimise disruption to class and maximise learning opportunities for our students, we would like to remind you that the school day starts promptly at 9.00am. If your child is late for any reason, please sign in at the office via the Compass Kiosk and obtain a late pass to be given to the classroom teacher.
Please ensure that if your child is leaving early that they are signed out on the Compass Kiosk before collecting them from the classroom.
