Teddy Bears Picnic

We were very lucky to have the weather clear up beautifully on Wednesday just in time for our Prep and Year 6 buddy teddy bear picnic.  It was terrific to see our students, families and teddies sharing lunch together.   I know that during graduation we often see pictures included of when our year 6 students were themselves preps eating lunches with their own buddies and it always makes me reflect on just how much growing up happens in the precious primary school years.

Playground Upgrades

Our school grounds are currently undergoing a number of really exciting and student centred changes.  This week has seen very pleasing progress on our new multipurpose courts with the fence removal and the area to be concreted marked out.  The newly painted chicken coop pieces are currently drying and will be put together very shortly!  The redesign of the area near the sandpit continues and is beginning to take shape.  Thank you to Pip and Fiona who have worked hard to design and organise such spaces.

School Social Media accounts

Whilst we do not encourage the use of social media accounts for our students we recognise it is a terrific platform for sharing events and celebrating learning that is taking place at school with our parent community.  If you have personal Instagram or Facebook accounts please ‘follow’ or ‘like’ the Old Orchard accounts.

To find our accounts you can search ‘Old Orchard Primary School’ on Facebook and ‘oldorchardps’ on Instagram.

A reminder for all students and parents that we are at the tired end of the term.  Early nights and some relaxing weekends are in order for some of our students so that we all enjoy a productive and positive learning time during the last 2 weeks of school.

Have a terrific weekend all, we look forward to meeting with you at parent teacher chats next week.

Kind regards

Jen Mccann

Recycle your Old Mobile Phones!

Old Orchard is helping save gorillas by collecting old mobile phones and tablets!!! All you need to do is drop off any old unwanted devices to the Office or send them along with your child to place in the cardboard cylinder at the Office. Once we collect more than 10, the Zoo arranges a free courier pick up from our school to the Zoo.

Since October 2008 They're Calling on You has collected more than 164,000 and raised more than $271,000 for conservation.

Funds raised through the recycling mobile phones are donated to support Zoos Victoria and our conservation partners, Gorilla Doctors, who provide life-saving medical care to fragile wild gorilla populations in Africa. Individual phones can also be dropped off at Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Zoo or Healesville Sanctuary.

We accept all mobile phones, smart phones, tablets and associated accessories in any condition.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to be sustainable.

School Car Parking After Hours

Just a friendly reminder that the car parks at the rear of the school adjacent to the Gym are for Kidzone drop-off and pick-up only - if your child is attending an after hours program such as Dance or Tennis please park in the larger carpark at the rear of the tennis courts.

If your child is absent from school for any reason you are able to report the reason through the Sentral Portal or by phoning the school on 9877 7899 and selecting option 1 to leave a message.

Supplies for the Art Room

Hi Parents and Friends,

We are looking for a few supplies for the Art room that you may have at home and be happy to donate. The supplies we need include: shoe boxes (with or without a lid) for the Grade 5 and 6 students, newspapers (to cover the tables when painting etc.), meat trays (washed well )and plastic trays for painting. We also require large cereal boxes and cardboard.

At this stage we don’t need any more egg cartons or glass jars and we can’t use toilet paper rolls.

Thanks for your help. Any donations can be left at the school front office or in the Art room in the donations box under the table.

Kind regards

Heidi Kelly, Art Teacher
