Week 5

Thank you to all the parents who came in for the parent teacher student interviews last week.

Over half the students have now presented their personal learning goals to their teachers and parents. The students will  be working on achieving these goals by the end of Semester 1 - Term 2. The reason of presenting these goals to the parents is so they can support their child/ren to achieve these goals by discussing their progress and working with them at home. At the start of Term 3 the students will then present their success of achieving these goals and then set new goals for the second semester.

To the parents who haven't been able to come in yet, can you please contact your child's teacher as soon as possible to organise a time.

Show Us Your Wheels

A great weekend last weekend for the Moyhu Primary School with our ‘Show Us Your Wheels’ fundraiser. The school and the grounds looked fantastic thanks to the working Bee clean –up and especially Chris and Emma Shanley for their extra clean-ups and organisation. It was great to see on all the stalls all the parents, students and previous parents and students working together to help make the day a great success. The coffee/cake stall proved to be a great success so thanks to Ros and all the team who were ‘run off their feet’ for most of the day. Thanks also to Biddy Burrows for her work in leading up to and the organising with this fundraiser for the parent’s club.

The exact amount of the profit for the fundraiser has not been reconciled with expenses but it looks like it has been a great success and the money raised will greatly contribute towards the children’s excursions and programs. We will announce the final profit amount in the next newsletter.

Hopefully you all saw the article in yesterday's Chronicle on the Show Us Your Wheels.

Bike Hike

The Year 3-6  bike hike will be happening on the Wednesday the 14th March. We are planning to ride from Myrtleford to Bright on the Rail Trail. The children will need to have a road worthy bike to ride – if they do not have a bike or the bike is not the right size please let me know ASAP so we can look find a bike for them. We are borrowing a bike trailer from The 15 mile Creek Camp to transport all the bikes. We have one parent confirmed who can help on this day. If you are free to help for the Bike Hike, please let me know. A few more helps for this excursion would be fantastic!

Sailing Camp

Next week the Year 6 students from the King Valley Cluster will be attending a sailing Camp in Rye. This is a fantastic camp where the children learn how to sail and get to know each other. I will be attending the Camp this year. Bec Gathercole will be in the classroom in my place.

Thank you to all the families who have returned all their forms over the past week. If you still haven't can you please send them in as soon as possible. It is important we have everyone's correct contact details at all times.

Classroom News!

We have been looking at the water cycle for inquiry this term. Year F-3 students have been focusing on the water cycle and conducting small experiments to test and show evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We will work more on our local waterways in the upcoming weeks by looking at water bugs and doing water tests!

I have been sending homework for the students who ask for it but please remember that Reading each night is the priority! Please remember to get those 'home readers' signed. Thank you.

Writers and Readers Notebook

The students have taken really well to both Readers and Writers Notebook and seem to be enjoying it.

The Writers Notebook is a place for students to write (even if they have nothing specifically to write about). For 15-20 minutes a day students write freely without the worry about anything they wish. It is used as an idea book for their later writing, so that when they come to writing narratives, poems and explanations they can open their Writers notebook and take an idea from there.

The Readers Notebook is where they write their thoughts as they read using the skill taught in the mini lesson. This week’s focus has been author’s purpose, so students have been writing their thoughts on the author’s purpose as they read. This encourages students to follow their ‘inner voice’ as they read.

Swimming Term 1

It has been great getting in the pool on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. The students have been practising their swimming techniques and it is great to see their skills and confidence improve each time.

Our Vegetable Garden

The current garden beds are coming alive again! We have recently planted a range of different vegetables and the students are responsible for their own garden bed with their partner. Hopefully we will have some delicious produce soon to take to Edi to cook with.

Moyhu Outside Hours School Care (MOSH)

Thank you to Casey Ivone for taking on the Mosh Supervisor's role at such short notice recently. Casey has been doing a fantastic job so far. She has familiarised herself with the program, the children who are currently enrolled and families.

The current children have really taken to Casey and her program. Please contact the school should you require your child to attend After School Care.

More details on changes and the program will be available in the coming weeks.
