Class of the Week - 3/4IM Writing - 5 Senses, The students in 3/4 IM enjoyed drawing their own landscape and completing a writing piece describing it. They were required to use their 5 senses (sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing) to describe their setting. , Marcus: 'You can feel the soft and warm grass on your feet, and the warm and salty water as you dip in the shallow water. When you climb a tall and gigantic tree, you feel the warm and rocky bark. When the smooth and silky wind passes you by, you want to chase it with the smooth grass. When the flowers blow in the wind, you smell one and go "achoo". When you dive into the water, you see the green and wobbly seaweed. As you get out you let the hot but refreshing sun hit your skin. , William: 'I see three humongous mountains out in the midnight sky like a lighthouse shining its light. I can feel the soft breeze on my face as I walk across the soft, short grass. I can sniff the aroma of fresh but salty air. I taste the salty air emitted by the waterfall. I can hear the swift, violent waterfall crashing into the stunning, colossal river. , Ameika: 'You see a joyful, deep blue sea as soft as a feather. You also see the captivating sunrise. A nice set of colours runs through the sky. An eye-catching island is in the middle of the sea. You hear cold waves crash against the sand. You feel the angry lava and fire burst like a dreadful troll. You taste salty water and nasty sand crunches like little rocks that have been crushed so many times! You smell dirty palms that smell like off coconuts. You smell the nice breezy waves that bring that salty smell like a salty monster. You touch the hot crunchy sand that is wonderful looking. The colours look stunning!, Isabel: In the beautiful sunrise at the pure black mountain, you can feel the soft grass and the cold water. You hear the splendid birds chirping and the cool water splashing. You can see a gorgeous sunrise and the extraordinary colourful birds. You taste the cold, salty water. You smell the incredible fresh air., Damanpreet: I see the vast mountains. I hear the birds chatter. I feel the rapid waterfalls and the stellar lake. I taste the snappy wind. The forest is as smelly as urine., Tahlia: You feel the bumpy rocks as you climb up to the vast forest. You drink the sky blue water from the waterfall. You see the koi fish with their beautiful patterns in the blue water, while you also see animals walking in the big forest. You hear tiny hummingbirds whistling a peaceful song and the water flowing down gently as you sit near the waterfall. Suddenly you smell something pleasant, you see blood red roses and bright daffodils., Ella: As you feel the soft prickly grass on your feet, you will feel the thorns pricking you on your toes. You will see the sunset slipping away while you are on top of the highest hill. You will hear the water ruffling in the wind and flowing on top of some grass. You will taste the fresh air that will be wherever you go. You will smell the pretty flowers that are near you., TERM GOALS, Each term, each child sets goals for themselves. Goals are important so we are held accountable for our actions, they give us more confidence and belief in ourselves, and they help us to stay motivated and focused. Students were required to set one personal and one academic goal for themselves. They will revisit their goals regularly over the term and document their progress., Personal goals included:, * Being nicer to a sibling, helping around the house, sharing their lives more with friends, being able to score more goals in soccer etc., Academic goals included:, * Improving in reading daily and filling in their reading log, learning all times tables, structuring a narrative correctly, not getting distracted in class atc., ANZAC Day, During a whole school service, we commemorated ANZAC Day. In class, we have been learning and reading lots of picture story books based on ANZAC Day. One book was called, ‘A Soldier, a Dog and a Boy’ by Libby Hathorn. It is a moving story about a young Australian Soldier who befriends a dog, who is actually owned by a French orphan named Jacques. It is about friendships and hardships in times of war. We had a discussion about what messages the story taught us about life, and how we can relate the ANZAC experiences to Jesus. The students thought that the ANZAC’s sacrificed their lives for our freedom just as Jesus sacrificed His life for us and that the common thread was respect., During our morning prayer, we read a touching and emotional poem together:April 25th a long time ago, , You went to battle at dawn,, Many lost their lives that day,, Together we will mourn,, More than that though,, We will march and remember those brave men,, For they went to war and battled on,, They fought for our freedom then., Through the darkest nights and longest days,, Through muddy grounds you go,, You marched on and looked behind, , And you saw the poppies grow., We will wear one on this day,, To remember your courage - so strong,, We want you to know that in our hearts,, Your memory still lives on., The students decorated the poems with drawings of poppies:, St John Vianney's House Fun Run, Today all the students from Year 3-6 participated in House Fun Run. All students did a magnificent job of running, supporting each other and cheering on their respective house teams. The Grade 6 House Captains did a brilliant job of leading the students with their chants., The Grade 3 and 4 students ran a 2km course around the school and the Grade 5 and 6 students ran a 3km course around the school. Congratulations to the students who will now go onto District Cross country., The overall winners were Padua, equal second were Xavier and Kildare followed by Lourdes. , Kingdom of God, During Term One our Inquiry unit in the 3/4 Level was titled Connections. Over the course of the term we focused on how we can become closer to God and become part of his Kingdom. All students worked collaboratively to create this masterpiece., Term Two Inquiry Topic, Our new Inquiry topic for Term 2 is Metamorphosis. As a level, we have planned many different activities and cannot wait to share with you our new learning. Students will be bringing home their learning to share with you and we look forward to updating you via SeeSaw as to what our students are achieving in the classroom.
