Prep enrolments for 2019

Enrolments for Prep 2019 are currently being accepted.  Thank you to the families who have already lodged an enrolment form.  It would be most helpful if parents could return the enrolment form (download from our website or available from the office) prior to the end of Term 2.

Student mid year reports on Compass June 22nd

Teachers are in the process of preparing mid year reports for their students.

Parents will be able to access their child's report via Compass from 5pm June 22nd, in advance of parent/teacher interviews commencing Monday 25th June.

Parent Teacher Interview bookings on Compass from June 15th

Parent/Teacher interviews will take place in the final week of the term, beginning 25th June.  On Wednesday 27th June, evening time slots will be available to parents who are unable to attend during the day.

Compass will be open for bookings for one week from tomorrow, Friday 15th June at 5pm, and bookings will close at 4pm on Friday June 22nd.  Parents can book an interview via Compass using their Compass login.

Specialist teachers are available for parent/teacher interviews. Sometimes parents book a time slot to introduce themselves to the specialist teachers. The specialists enjoy getting to know parents however we ask that interview timeslots are booked by parents who wish to discuss matters related to their child’s learning and progress as a priority.

Our History Art Competition: entries due June 22nd

Entry forms and ideas are available at the office.  A great activity for the children this weekend!

Modular building project update

Last week a project team from the Department of Education arrived to ascertain the location of services on the school site.  Yesterday we met with the project manager to discuss the overall time frame for the project.

The completion date is estimated to be at the end of Semester 1,  2019.  Very exciting!

Dogs not permitted in the playground

Signs on entrances to the school alert our community that dogs are not permitted in the school grounds.  Bayside Council regulations also require dog owners to supervise their dogs at all times and, in the context of our school, this means dogs are not to be left unsupervised outside the grounds at drop off and pick up times.

We have become aware that on weekends some members of the community allow their dog to play on the grassed area and, disappointingly, do not clean up after their dog.  It is unfair to expect our students to play on a fouled grass area.  We will monitor this on the weekends and we seek the support of our school community to advise dog owners to seek alternative play areas for their pet.

Beaumaris Secondary College - Community Open Day

Beaumaris Secondary College is holding its Community Open Day on Saturday 23 June from 10am – 12pm and would love to see you there.

The school is positioned to be at the heart of the Beaumaris community, with fantastic educational facilities and offerings for students, strongly integrated with the local community.

They are keen to show you the new school and its facilities.

At the Community day, you will be able to:

 ·     take a student led tour of the site from 10am – 11.45am

·     attend the official opening at 11.45am in the Gymnasium with the Principal and School Council address, including the official naming of the Bob Whiteway Resource Centre.

For more information see the flyer in the Community news section of our newsletter.

The Resilience Project

Over the weekend The Resilience Project posted a very interesting video on their Facebook page entitled "Are Helicopter Parents Ruining a Generation".  The acclaimed author,  Julie Lythcott-Haims, (write of 'How to Raise an Adult') believes that helicopter parenting can work in the short term, but eventually you just get in the child's way and deprive them of the chance to become responsible and accountable.

A short and very powerful video- worth a watch!  Click HERE to link to the video.

Have a great week everyone...

What are three things that went well for you today?

What are the best things that happened to you today?

Who are you most grateful for and why?

What are you looking forward to most about tomorrow?

Plastic Free July

Here are five helpful tips from our Sustainability Team to help you get ready for plastic free July.  Watch the photos as they automatically scroll through the five tips.

Snack Shack Update

Due to the reduced number of sales during the cold weather, we have removed the chunky fruit salad cup from the menu until later in the year.  We are looking out for volunteers for Term 3.  A note will be sent home via school bags AND Compass.  Please return the forms to the office by Monday 25th June. The roster will be circulated before the school holidays begin. Thank you.

Soup Dates

Monday 18th June – Chicken Noodle Soup $1 per cup, available at both recess and lunch, or until stock lasts.

Monday 25th June – Chicken Noodle Soup $1 per cup plus a trial of our new vegetarian soup – Pumpkin and Carrot for 50c a cup.

Just a reminder that our soups are made from scratch (stock included) by volunteer parents at the school.  All ingredient lists are available at the canteen upon request.  Volunteers are also required to serve the soup so if you’re available on either of these two Mondays, please let us know.

Sausage rolls are here.

Our new sausage rolls will be ready for sale on Wednesday 20th June.  As a special treat, we will have samples available for tasting (while stocks last) on Monday 18th June at recess for any students or staff who wish to try before they buy. These sausage rolls will be baked and delivered by Baked By The Bay and we look forward to hearing your feedback about our tastier and MUCH healthier home-style sausage rolls which will be available next week for ordering on Qkr! for $3 each.

From the Art Room

Check out the work produced in the art room.  These students used brushes, spatulas and newspaper as tools to mix primary colours to make secondary colours.  The theme was Tropical Birds.

The Art room is also in desperate need of polystyrene trays, please save them for us.

Compass Kiosk

We have a new way of signing in and out of the school, which automatically links to our Compass system.  This replaces both the early/late arrivals book and the Visitors iPad sign in.  Our new system is located on the reception desk at the school office and provides a simplified and quicker way of signing in/out.   It is very user friendly but the office staff will be happy to show you how to use it, if required.

Wise Ones

WiseOnes is a program for fast learners from Years 1-6.  It operates during school hours in small groups.  It provides students with an opportunity to mix with other creative thinkers, be challenged and have fun.

There is a qualifying entry level.  Claudine is offering a free, fun activity to identify eligibility.

For more information please contact Claudine at [email protected] or mobile 0414 249 462
