Welcome Evening

It was great to see so many families attend our Welcome Evening last night. Thank you to all volunteers who worked hard to make this wonderful event possible and those who were in attendance. A special thank you to the Galilee Parent Association for their organisation, all parent helpers, students and staff in attendance.

SRC and Social Justice Leaders

This week, students in Years 1-6 elected their SRC and Social Justice Leader for their class.  Congratulations to all the successful candidates. During Assembly next week, the new leaders will be presented with their badge. Parents/carers are invited to attend assembly at 2:40pm Wednesday in the Hall.

Late passes and student absences

A reminder that if your child arrives at school after 8:50am, they must sign in at the Office and obtain a late pass to give to their teacher.

If your child is sick and not attending school, parents must notify the Office by 8:50am.

Where an unexplained absence is identified the school will make all reasonable attempts to contact the parents/guardians that morning. This will in the first instance be done via an automated email message

Where no response is received by the parents/guardians that morning a subsequent phone call will be made to seek an explanation.

In the event that contact cannot be made with the parents/guardians the school will attempt to communicate with emergency contact/s nominated on the student’s file.

Where there is no response and there are concerns for the safety and welfare of the student contact may be made with Victoria Police.

Please take the time to read through Galilee's Attendance Policy.

Lunch time clubs

At Galilee, we have various lunch time clubs run by either Galilee Staff or private contractors.

Students from all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Chess Club is facilitated by David Topol from Top Chess every Tuesday at lunchtime (beginning 18 February). The  program aims to develop students' chess abilities alongside a deeper understanding of problem solving techniques that have utility in all areas of life. Students are offered the opportunity to apply their knowledge in both weekly inter-class tournaments as well as interschool tournaments ranging from regional to national level. David has over seven years of teaching and coordinating chess lessons and tournaments in a number of schools around Melbourne. David is devoted to providing the highest level of teaching as he has benefited immensely from the study and teaching of chess since a young age. Sessions are $12. If your child is interested in joining the Chess Club, please email David at

Garden Club is facilitated by Holly Evans and Brighid Fahy every Tuesday at Recess in Learning Street. Students will experience hands-on gardening and learn how to plant seeds and seedlings and look after them.

Debating Club is run by Julie Ferguson and Charlotte Biggs every Wednesday lunch time. Students will learn how to construct arguments and plan debates.

Craft Club is run by Sammy Bamford and Annabel Coome in the 1S classroom every Thursday lunch time.  Students are provided with art and craft materials to produce various pieces of artworks.

A weekly timetable will be devised for Years 2-6 grades to walk to Sol Green. Parents will be notified via Class Dojo if their child's year level will be participating that week.

A reminder that the Microfibre Sport Jacket is not to be worn as a jumper over the Summer Uniform. It must be worn with the Sport Uniform.  Likewise, the woollen jumper must not be worn with the Sport Uniform.

As an extra layer of warmth, the jacket may be worn over the woollen jumper when wearing the  Summer Uniform.

The rugby jumper is also part of the Sport Uniform only. It must not replace the woollen jumper when the Summer Uniform is worn.

Please speak to the classroom teacher for any clarification regarding the uniform or read the policy on the school website.

Over the Summer Holidays we ran a Holiday Program called Summer Holiday Carnival. The first week of holiday program we had the privilege of South Melbourne Park children joining us as well as Jake and Letitia which was a lot of fun for all. The children got to enjoy various activities, incursions, in house days and excursions. Here are some photos of what we got up to:

  • We went on an excursion bowling and lasar tag which was a lot of fun where all the children striked a pose-  Jacob, Jai,Sofia, Lucy, Dante, Mila, Lola, Oliver, Jack, David and Claire couldn't wait to see what points they got against the opposition team!
  • The service became a massive science lab where Evie, Hugo, Sarah, Zoe and other children got involved in the Colour Changing experiment activity. They all watched as the magic solution  changed colours right in front of us.
  • Super Sluths- we had CSI Incursion by Mini Boss come out to do some crime and investigating. A crime had been committed and it's up to us to solve the crime in your team. Violet, Annabelle and Oliver were our head detectives to guide their team.
  • Carnival of Colour-  We are all off to the Carnival of Colour for a fantastic day full of jumping castles, cuddly animals, Kaboom kids clinic, magic show, face painting and DIY crafts. Evie won a frisbee from the Kaboom kids clinic which was a good achievement
  • Ishaan and Jai got really creative with the foam balls and made Pokemon balls.
  • Gemma did some face painting on Darcie which was so much fun and creative, while Jacob got really into it and painted a Aborginal flag on his arm.
