 Principal's Report

Dear Members of the Burwood East Primary School Community,

2018 Foundation Transition

It has been fabulous to see the smiling faces of many of our new Foundation students for 2018 during their recent transition visits. While the new Foundation students have been enjoying a range of classroom activities, their parents have been involved in sessions  to support their child’s  transition into Burwood East PS.

Final  Book Collection Day 29th January 10am - 12pm

2019 Day

On the 11th December, we will hold a very special day for all of our current Foundation to Year Five and new Foundation students as they are provided with the opportunity to spend the day with their 2019 class and their 2019 teacher. Having the opportunity to familiarise  yourself with a new environment, meet your new teacher and class  friends is an opportune time for the students (and families) to alleviate some of the issues experienced when children are required to move from one classroom or school to another. This day has previously been an enormous success and I look forward to receiving some feedback from the teachers, students and parents.

End of year reports

Staff have been moderating their assessments and preparing written reports for each student in the school which will go home in the last week of term. All teachers are starting to put together class lists and structures for 2019 and these will be finalised shortly. We received correspondence from a number of families which has helped us to compile these classes.

Playground Behaviour

I would like to congratulate all the students at Burwood East Primary School who continue to play in such a friendly and respectful manner in our school yard. I truly believe that we have amazing students and this is yet another way that confirms my belief.

Playground Supervision

A reminder to all families that school supervision by teachers on official duty is provided for a minimum of 15 minutes before and after the school day. The care and supervision of students remains the responsibility of their parents and guardians outside the times of school supervision - 8:45am - 3:45pm. Before and After School Care is available on site through Camp Australia.

Assistant Principal's Report

Dear Members of the Burwood East Primary School Community,

What a jam-packed couple of weeks we have had! I’d like to begin by acknowledging the hard work of our Parent and Friends Association for their organisation of the School Movie Night. This has again been a highly successful event for the school community and thankfully some better weather. A big thank you to Mel and her team for all their efforts.

Student Leadership

Well done to all the Year 5 students who have participated in the student leadership process for 2019. It takes a lot of confidence and resilience to speak in front of such a large group of people and all the students should be proud of their efforts. I look forward to working with the future leaders in 2019.

Year 3 and 4 Camp

The Year 3 and 4 students had a wonderful time on camp in Week 6. I was lucky enough to spend the whole time at camp and was amazed by the number of students willing to push themselves outside their comfort zone when it came to activities involving heights or even trying new foods at dinner time. Camps provide a wonderful opportunity for students to show their teamwork skills in a different environment. Thank you to Mary and Angela for their organisation of the camp and for the other staff (Sue, Charlotte, Josh) parent helpers (Matt and Mardi) and student teachers (Eliza and Sam) for their help and support.

Technology at BEPS

Students at our school are exposed to a range of technologies which are seen as tools to support student learning. Each class in the school has access to a number of iPads which are used in all areas of the curriculum and MacBook Pro laptops are also used across years 2-6. To ensure our students are able to use technology effectively we have again invested in a large number of new iPads to support the growth in the junior area of the school in 2019. Our school is also lucky to have great support from our school technician Colin who will be busy in the holidays ensuring that all technology in the school is working effectively.

Student Uniform

It is often around this time of year that student uniform standards can start to be forgotten. I would like to ask parents to support us in ensuring their children are wearing the school uniform consistently, the exception being if students require a winter coat on these chilly November days. Furthermore, there is a large amount of clothing that is unnamed or second hand available to families which often ends up being donated at the end of each term. Please come and see me if you are interested in taking any of these items.

Student Banking

Just a final reminder to all families that the current Commonwealth Banking will cease to operate from 29th of November this year as no more transactions can take place after this date.
Corey Lim from Bendigo Bank Blackburn South will be attending the school on the 2019 day - 11th of December from 8:30am - 11:00am. Parents will be able to sign up their child/ren on this date.

Food Delivery

A reminder to all parents that if you are bringing food into school for your child then you must sign in as a visitor through the office as per our school visitor policy. A reminder that parents can also order lunch orders through Balanced Living Catering on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday provided orders are placed before 9am. Orders can be placed by setting up an account at https://www.flexischools.com.au/ . Please see the office if you require further information.

Many thanks,

Andrew Den Elzen
