From the Principal

Last week we acknowledged Shrove Tuesday with our students enjoying a morning tea of pancakes, cooked and served by a wonderful group of parents, 21 in total, which was fantastic. Sincere thanks to the many parents who helped with this activity. It was wonderful to see a good number of our Prep mums also helping out. Thank you

Shrove Tuesday led us into Ash Wednesday, which was acknowledged  with a whole school mass.

Reconciliation Family Night

Thursday 12th March 7pm - 8pm

Sacred Heart Primary School is hosting this year's Reconciliation Family Night. It is a night for both parents and those children receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year.

Families from both Sacred Heart and Christ Our Holy Redeemer are asked to attend. The evening will involve  a discussion about the importance  of this Sacrament and an opportunity for families to share some time discussing the significance of this Sacrament in their daily lives.

Kinder Connections

This week we commenced community engagement activities with our local early learning centres and pre-schools. On Wednesday 10 senior students and staff visited Guardian ELC (formerly Cocos) reading picture story books to the young children. In the coming weeks and months we will also be visiting St John's Pre-School, Emmanuel Pre-School and Three Bees ELC.

Staff News

Next week we welcome back Elise Rimington. Elise will be returning from maternity leave and will be working in the 3/4GR classroom each Thursday and Friday.

2021 Enrolments

Our enrolment process has commenced for Prep 2021. Any current school families that have children who will be attending Prep next year are asked to come to the school office and collect a 2021 enrolment form. If it isn’t convenient to come in, please phone and we will send a form home.

Veggie Garden

WOW! Look at the size of this zucchini! In recent weeks the children have seen the vege patch producing  a number of zucchinis as well as  small roma tomatoes.

Early Arrivals

A reminder that students are not to be at school before 8:30am. The children are not supervised before this time and it is an important safety measure that children are not on the school grounds unsupervised.

If your child requires care before 8:30am we would ask that you contact our Out of Hours School Care service conducted by Youth Leadership Victoria on 0412 958 605

Division Swimming

Congratulations to Drew McLaughlin and Christiano Belmuda who represented COHR this week at the Division Swimming. We are very proud of them for making it to this level.

As we journey through Lent let us keep Christ at the heart of all our
words and actions.

Let us focus our lives more clearly on the way of
Christ and living the Christian life.

Grade 5/6 Camp Information Night

Due to the school sports night being moved to Thursday 19th March,  there will be no camp information session. If you would like anything clarified or have any questions about the camp, please direct your query to one of the 5/6 teachers.

'O' Week 2020!!

What a fantastic 'O' Week in 2020!!! The students have settled into their classrooms beautifully. Each class has developed their own set of rules and expectations based on our School Wide Expectations (see below).

There has been a real 'buzz' in the staff room about how well each and every class has settled in! There is a great 'buzz' around the school community this year with many exciting things happening throughout the year!

How great was our 'O' Week puzzle piece display!!? Could you find your child's name?

School Wide Expectations

In 2017, we developed our School Wide Expectations. These expectations encompass all the values that we as a school think should be shown to/by all individuals.

These values are: Show Respect, Be Safe, Try Your Best, Be A Team and Follow Christ.

Each week at our Friday Assembly, Mr. Welsford selects an expectation that the school will focus on. Teachers will choose one student in their class who have shown that expectation to receive acknowledgment and the SEL Award.

Parents are encouraged to use these expectations at home with the children, as this will help them develop the language and behaviours that accompany the school expectations.

Some behaviours that students may show which demonstrate the  school expectations are:

Show Respect: Taking turns, being patient, listening to adults  and one another

Be Safe: Holding mum or dads hand when crossing the road, wearing helmets when riding bikes or scooters, being aware of their surroundings

Try Your Best: Completing their reading and homework to the best of their ability, showing persistence with jobs/chores at home

Be A Team: Playing nicely with siblings and/or family members, showing sportsmanship and positive attitudes at after school activities

Follow Christ: Showing kindness to family and friends, sharing toys with their siblings, using manners when speaking to others.

Season's For Growth 2020

The Season's for Growth program is well and truly underway  for 2020! This term, we have a grade 2 and 3 group taking place and we are looking to cover the rest of the students on our list over the year!

Please make sure you contact me or your child's classroom teacher, if you are interesting in having your child involved in a group.
